Thankfully given our climate out here, temps ate mild enough either 10w30 or 15w40 are acceptable weights.

I've ran worse in some personal small engines

Never understood the allure of "trading" vehicles so often with dealerships.

Guy had a Tacoma (3rd Gen), traded it in for a Ranger, and back into another Tacoma.

I'm no stranger to switching vehicles, I've owned a shit ton. But when going through a dealer, you're losing out due to trade in values (you're paying for convenience here), paying fees on the new vehicle, and doing it all over for another trade.

All that money lost could've put long travel on the initially owned vehicle.

I think a lot of people are intimidated by the idea of private sales, scammers, liars, etc. Thinking along the lines of 'would rather deal with the pro's/would rather deal with a legit business'....yeah well those legit businesses are in the business of making as much money off of you as possible. But for some I suppose the trade off of losing money in the deal is worth it to them

this part reminds me of a bit I heard on a car talk radio program awhile back, guy traded in his 3rd gen Tacoma on some other new pickup because he didn't like the way the suspension felt on the Taco.

    Dumb dumbs

The dude I sold my good 96 camry to for $2000 traded it for a steaming heap of a 95 celica, when that started to act up they traded it for a similar vintage civic, that they trade for a similar vintage but crappier mustang, that they traded for another mustang... that had a lein on the title that they sold for 300 bucks

About the same as leasing a vehicle for 5 years at a time, then upgrading to a new lease I suppose

Yeah and that's very true, which is why I added 'convenience' but at some point you've got to stop and maybe do a little due dilligence. It's crazy how easily and quickly people toss money aside so blindly.

I don't expect anyone to know how to say, buy or sell their own vehicle, but the information is out there. Whether online, on a public forum, a friend or family member even.

I know when I had specific questions regarding the Land Cruiser before getting it, I called Zane up two or three different times. And I was happy to be there with you when we got your 4Runner.

If you're buying and trading in a vehicle every so often (2, 3 years) then believe it or not, doing a short term lease will actually save you a ton of money.

Run the figures on taxes up front versus per month, depreciation on purchased vehicle (and amount financed) to figure a general idea of your negative, and run a lease for the same length as that trade in using publicly available residuals, so you can see already what you'll pay up-front for depreciation, and you'll be amazed to see as much as $8-12k loss on a $35k vehicle if you had purchased.

Depending on how you quantify the loss of never paying off a vehicle into true ownership via leasing, it could be argued you're doing the same thing. 5 years of lease payments are payments that will never benefit you (or 2-3 years for comparison's sake). But idk exactly, I've never done either.

Are these normal values? Losing $20k over 3 years by leasing sounds like it'd be pretty much the same thing as what that guy is doing

You know 90% of the 4WD won't see dirt until they're 20 years old anyway lol
