17's or 18's w 3" lift

I'm running 18's as well. Tires sizes are 285/65-R18. Have the same issues as chris. The shop that installed my 3 inch lift also trimmed in front of the wheel well also but it rubs a little while backing out and turning full tilt. I just need to do some more trimming where they did and I should be good to go! That's a project I have saved for this upcoming weekend. Other then that, no issues at all!

how much did you guys pay for your packages? or did you just get them seperate. The only decent place i can think of out here is discount tire and there's desert rat but they can be a tad expensive sometimes

 

Im running 18's 285/65/18
minor trimming, minor rubbing at full turn going over dips

 

I got most of my stuff separate. Only problem with that is finding someone to install it. Big places like Discount Tires and Bog O' Tires won't install lifts and products they don't sell. At least where I live they don't. They say its a liability issue. Luckily I had a friend that knew someone that owns a tire shop and does all that stuff so he hooked me up. Your going to spend quite a bit if you want to do it the right way. All depends on what your looking for.

 

I also have the 285/65/18's with a 3" lift. You'll have to trim some if you don't want to rub. The first thing that's got to go are the mudflaps. I cut more than most because of the Aero Kit, but it was easy. A hacksaw will cut through the polyurethane plastic of the inside fender like butter and a pair of beafy scissors work great on the inner wheel splash guard. I trimmed a little, then drove the truck in slow tight circles in my cul-de-sac with windows down and drivers door open. (frontwards and backwards at a snails pace) When I still heard a little rub, I stopped...got out and identified where the tire was hitting. Then went back to my garage and shaved off a little more. (I think I did this 3 times, but got it all...NO RUB). Take a shop light under the truck with you so you can what your doing...(like the orange one in this pic):

 

I'm running 285/60/18 with only a 2.5" lift. Very little trimming on the front of the wheelwell and mudflap. Still have a sight rub at full lock while backing up.

 

yeah i think thats what i'll do. how hard is it to shave off to avoid rubbing? although if the rubbing isn't all that bad i may just deal w it and avoid doing any trimming. i figured 18's w some 285/60/18. i really like those terra grapplers. now i just gotta find some wheels. any recommendations on where to shop?

 

Most people I know with 33's or 32's have minimum trimming to do and no, its not hard at all. If you get 33's, plan on taking off your front mud flaps, rears should be fine. Like I said before, I will be doing a little more trimming this weekend using my dremel I bought last week. I tested it out a couple of days ago on a piece of the plastic and worked like a charm! Umm, now for wheels, I'm not really sure where you want to go. I got mine off of ebay. I know they have some pretty nice wheel/tire combinations in all kinds of sizes on ebay with the Nitto Terra Grappler's you wanted. Type in "286/60/18 Nitto" on the search and lots of wheel/tire combos should pop out!

how do you guys think the 265/60's would fit? would i still have a rub issue. i saw some nitto dura grapplers that were that fit and was thinking of going that direction if there wouldn't be a rubbing issue

Im running 20" on 22.5" Nitto Terra Grappers and I have no rubbing at all. No lift neither.

 

Nitto makes Dura Grapplers. I have never seen them on the road though.

hey, I want to add some rims and tires looking at either 17s or 18s. The truck has no lift other than rear TSB add. Well I pull a large bassboat and I am wondering if I do go with the 18" rims if I will rubb alot when pulling and backing my boat? Will I need to lift the truck (e.g rear AAL) more to compensate for this or what.

 

You can run 18"s but there going to have to be street tires for the most part. If you want that off-road look, definetely look at getting a 3" lift. I was in your shoes before to with 18" aftermarket rims and no lift. After talking with many people on TW, I decided to go with a 3" lift and I love it!! Truck looks wa better IMO!!!

 

I ultimately wanted 18s so i bought my 18" wheels but got a deal on some KM2s for a 17" Wheel so now am going with the 17", all in all i woulda rather gone with the 18s
