    It never hurts.
    Until later.
Same thing with my pressman. He was cleaning the press, just inching it along. All safeties in place. It took off a fingertip. He didn’t fell pain, until later… No matter how we’ve tried, none of can figure out how it happened. It stresses me out to this day

My dad saw a guy get his hand sucked into the ink rollers while cleaning. After that, he always folded the rag into a nice tidy square and kept his fingers in a fist. He always told me a rag can go through the rollers, his fingers wouldn't.

I'll never forget my middle school shop teacher showing us woodworking tools with a fun demo. He had a wood dowel that he had drawn a finger on the end with a marker. He turned on a jointer and jammed it into the cutter head and it exploded in a shower of wood chips. He just looked at us... "any questions?" No sir.

Pro rally co-drivers will cross their arms over their chest and pull their knees up tight in a crash.
If anyone knows how to train to reflexively do that without actually enduring multiple roll over crashes let me know.

Fact. When I was in HS metals class we had welding aprons with rope ties. Most everyone would NOT listen to the teacher and tie them off in front.
One kid noticed it was getting very warm as he was welding, stopped and saw he was on fire (well the rope was) panicked and dropped the electrode holder and arc flashed himself.

    Yeah good times.

    Damn!
When I was in high school, the intro shop classes (wood, metal, welding, auto, printing) spend almost the first month talking mostly safety and had tests you must pass before being allowed into the shop. We actually had a very good safety record.
I may have had jeans on fire at one point, frayed jeans were a thing back then... lol

It's been all over the place today. It sucks but there's lots of unexplored trails (by our group) in that area.

I got a burn hole in my jeans. It wasn't from welding.
It happened while I was sitting around a campfire.
A few miles outside of Moab Utah

After you do any form of racing enough, things slow down enough that you have time to think of such things as you're driving. I would suspect that pretty much any pro drivers have a pretty good feel for when it's gotten so out of shape that there isn't a chance of saving it.
