Has anybody ever trimmed/shortened an insert? I have a spare 29 insert but only 27.5 bikes now. I don't want to pay for another overpriced insert and don't see a huge reason I can't simply shorten the 29, there doesn't seem structural support would affect the effectiveness at the bead

like a cush core tire insert? i dont see why not. cut a small section out somewhere to fit in your tire? you might be able to use a regular valve too and not the special insert valve

i thought people were using pool noodles for awhile before more companies made inserts. maybe that was an april fools joke years ago?

Yes, use a velcro strap rather than attempting to glue, zip tie etc.

This is good information. did you cut a hole on either side of the separation to feed the strap? I'll see what I can find the garage

Yes just a slot to feed it though. (about 3/4" inward from edge) Has been holding up for quite a while on a cushcore.

What do you do for a living that you..

    A) Have a seemingly endless supply of high end bikes.
    2) Travel around the country regularly.
    D) Store one of said bikes in each of said places.
    4) Have enough free time to ride said bikes in said places.

    Please advise.

That damn Sensus pad has been sold out for years. I've been emailing them, always get the same response. Soon.
    Sure, sure...

That blue is really good looking in person.

Yep, used the velcro strap method. Huck Norris used to ship that way, so I just used that method when I tried a MX setup.

Chameleon. I remember when that was a THING for aftermarket car paint lol. But now it kinda looks cool on bikes. Allied does similar paint schemes and I love it.

I do too. I remember how cool the Mysti-Chrome Cobra was....and I now know how dated it looks. That's my fear with the Chameleon, but I do like it.

EDIT: Just look at that rear wheel well gap....Is that thing 4WD? What the heck were we thinking in 2004?

hahaha. Amazing what 20 years does to perception!

I still think you should go for it. More likely to have all standards for wheels, cranks and components change before the paint looks dated.

Anyone with experience on the Ripley/ripmo?

Have a local guy selling his carbon ripley V4 for 2750 super clean GX build which sounds like a pretty killer price… I think my ideal travel would be in the 140/140 range but I’ve always liked ibis and they only do the ripmo/ Ripley on either end of that range. For those of you with experience the Grand Junction/Moab trails have a lot more punchy climbs that are technical and I’m not a dedicated downhiller, but our rocks do make things Rowdy where are some of the cross country bikes are under gunned.

I’ve got a Ripley af. Super fun bike, capable on the rocks. I’ve done super long rides and even just did an enduro race on it. I think it’s a very well rounded bike. The BB is a little low so I get a lot of pedal strikes on rocks.

it handles the east coast rocks I’ve ridden it on just fine. I haven’t taken it on super super rocky stuff yet though.

for undulating terrain I think it’s a good choice. If you have slow long climbs and long descents I’d go with a ripmo. There’s a reason I’m about to get an enduro bike haha

edit: also, I personally find the front end way too low for a lot of descending. For XC trails it’s fine. For longer downhills I’d add higher bars and a longer fork. I’m 5’11” on a size large.
