If I rent, it's more than likely going to be with my best friend Mike and my girlfriend, so the rent gets offset. Having a girlfriend has made moving out of my parents' house more desirable than it has been in the past, for numerous reasons... :D

If my wife and I were to ever move, it would only be to an acreage with enough garage/shop space for both cars, my truck, our travel trailer and whatever other "tools" (e.g. tractor or ATV) you need to maintain that kind of property.

Sure this has been discussed, but do you really plan to have a house built? Is this just wishful thinking?

Isn’t it easier to purchase an existing home?

Likely going to buy an existing house, but there are a lot of existing houses just like those ranchers...

Bucket in a closet (toilet) + a popcorn bowl with a water bottle (sink) = half bath

A half-bath only has a toilet and a sink, and a full bath has a tub and/or shower. A half-bath is the powder room...

Helen's house was originally one bathroom, but they literally put a toilet in the kitchen pantry (not enough room for a sink)...

The only good thing about renting is you don’t typically have to pay for maintenance.
But that doesn’t mean the maintenance gets done in a timely manner, or even at all for that matter.
Owning a house is easy, until it isn’t. Taxes and maintenance. Stuff breaks, you either fix it or replace it. You also have to choose who will be doing the fixing and replacing. I don’t have lots of money, so I have to fix a lot of the stuff myself.

Why thank you. Fun fact, she doesn't have a meow that human ears can hear. Purrs like crazy though.

Easier, yup. Friend of mine had a house built (not a prefab either). His inlaws had 30 acres of land, gave them 3. There was a lot of work besides the obvious (clearing trees and such) because that end of the road wasn't recognized as a road so needed water etc run in. But all in all he got a killer house built that he never could have afforded otherwise. Was worth all the waiting ultimately.

Mine must be one and a half..in one room. Haha..

Good part of owning..you don't have to complain to the landlord to get stuff fixed.
Bad part of owning..you don't have a landlord to complain to in order to get stuff fixed.

My furnace costing me almost 5K, for one.
