So my high beams have started messing up. I was driving down the road and pushed the stalk forward to turn on the high beams and it turned off all of my lights including the gauges. What do I need to look at first? I’m new to the tacomas.

Remove the bulbs and inspect for anything obvious with bulbs or connectors.

I'd guesstimate that the stalk gave its last flick...

Sounds like the stalk shorted out, or shorted something else out. Did the lights come back on when pulled back into the low beam position?

Yes, my headlights return back to low beam wherever I pull the stalk back to normal. It’s just if I push the stalk forward to turn the high beams on it kills the headlights and my running lights stay on.

Let's go for the easy stuff first. Do you have OEM / Toyota factory headlights or aftermarket? Have you checked the bulbs? It's not at all unusual to have both high (or low) beams go out at the same time.

IF OEM, then one bulb (H4) dual filament (LOW /HIGH) per side.

So I figured it out and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I just needed to change out the headlights even though the bulbs looked to be in perfect condition. After swapping the bulbs out I got my high beams back.

I'm glad it was a simple issue [queue: "it ain't got no gazz in itt"]. The gaige lights turning off made it sound like a larger issue.
