That pictured spot grew nice wood ducks! Sabine delta/oxbow country in deep east Texas north of Toledo Bend. I worked for a REIT that acquired a bunch of old rice paddies that had timber in them in south central Louisiana. Rice paddies double as mudbug farms there. As far as growing timber after....Forgetaboutit !! so soft we could hardly thin or final harvest those awful spots. I walked most of them for fertilizer vetting and ran into more moccasins and red bugs than anywhere in my life/career. Anyway, this is the first year in 8 that I haven't had any crawdads and it's a sore subject....

    NICE! looks flashy, any spots?

I have family in South Louisiana, but haven't had good crawfish since they banned shipping live ones into Washington state. I still prefer shrimp from the fishing camps out towards the gulf though.

Nope. It was all phragmites so very flashy. But the wind cooperated and it went smoothly. We were also burning the interior of some impoundments so it was real easy.

Don't worry, it was a prescribed burn.

    Yep.
    :pccoffee:

-2 for not stating it was a controlled burn.

A few small metal objects that came home (from the woods) over the years. I know what 2 out of 3 are…

My friends and I used to call them cypress boners, we camped out on a disappearing island (Dog Island, Maitland, Florida) and had a nightmare setting up a tent without cypress knots poking through the floor.

Wish Florida would do more of that, we're at a 5" deficit of rain and things are quite dry around here.

Edit: apparently we do that I'm just ignorant

I'm pretty sure that's a Tree Star and a delicacy for Little Foot and his mother (RIP), not Columbo, just a grown up that watched Land Before Time often.

FL does more prescribed burning than most other states. Definitely in the top 5 for annual burn acres.
