As the article I posted a few hours ago said, you cannot completely prevent theft but you can significantly reduce the risk.

It’s a BIG problem here despite being in the top five places to live in the midwest (according to Livability.com). I’ve read that you are actually more likely to be a repeat victim as the perp knows you likely have a brand new one because he took yours just a few weeks ago and knows if it’s a quick job or not.

Solid calculations...that's if you can work overtime, I mostly cannot.

Don't forget to add in the time running back and forth to drop off and pick up your vehicle too.

As my lawyer says, add in something for my attitude problem :)

Has anyone gotten or heard of anyone getting their cats stolen even with cat shields on?

Right up there with the people who leave their cars unlocked because "at least they won't break the window."

If they really want it, they'll get it. What most thieves want is what's available to them. They're more than likely not going to give it a second thought after seeing the cat shield. It'll add too much time and be too much of a hassle. They may even attempt and give up. But if they really want it, they'll get it. The majority of these thieves are opportunists.

Bingo. Nothing is TRULY theftproof. It's about slowing them down enough to make them realize it's too much effort and risk versus the next person who didn't take any measures.

I've heard of the window one before. I suppose if you have a $500 shitbucket and don't leave anything of value in the vehicle perhaps, though I still prefer not to let someone have an easy path to my property

This thread makes me think about when I was racing bicycles. Bike theft is rampant, so the only way to stop it was to slow the thief down with a bigger lock/chain.

We used to joke that every bike weighted 30 lbs. if you have a 29lb bike, you need a 1lb lock. If you have a 14lb bike, you need a 16lb lock!

Hit me in the feels. Back then if we went into the convenience store together we locked them up and the biggest guy watched them while everyone else went in quickly too.

I still ride and even though I lock my bike with a huge chain in my truck I try to plan never to let it out of my sight...gets some looks when I bring it into meetings for sure.

Funny how that works where if you ask a question you get an answer compared to making ridiculous emotional statements.

Funny, my city, and the one next to me, are #1 and #2 safest in the county...both in Texas. Everywhere has its share of shitty areas and even the most wealthy neighborhoods have their share of theft.
On to your problem, I'm sure there is a cat shield that would at least make the thieves think twice and move on to an easier target. Have you looked at these yet? https://caliraisedled.com/products/catalytic-converter-shield-tacoma-2016-2022

Yup they steel cats here in BC Canada, busy parking lots in broad daylight, don't even think about parking at a trail head and going for a hike. I installed Miller Cat shortly after buying my OR. Hopefully a theif will crawl under, see it and move on to an unprotected vehicle

nice try…. Frisco and Plano have population densities that are too low to be considered “cities.”

I live in OC just like OP does and my neighbor and I both have 2017 Tacomas. My neighbor has had his tailgate stolen, cats stolen and they took his tools out of his truck. I would not classify OC California as a safe place.

Did OP ever respond, I thought he was being facetious about the safety thing, I had a good chuckle over it:notsure:
