Just hit them anyway with the rattle can then and don't sweat it if your that worried about the corrosion. Will most likely occur at the nuts if they aren't the same metal as the stud.

Just ordered these from Amazon for $61, including prime. Figure it'll be about the same as $45+ shipping from RockAuto or wherever else.

Just rolled out from under my truck, install was a breeze for the most part. Will start a different thread with a little step-by-step 'cause I remembered to take pictures.

Finally got around to doing this. Got it done all by myself with the help of a cargo strap. Took maybe an hour moving slowly. Cleaned the rubber gaskets before putting them back in the new straps. Didn't paint since I live in AZ so I figure the galvanized steel will hold up well in our climate.

I was sort of disappointed when I got my truck and found that the skid plate was plastic, but it’s been hit several times and it’s been ok so far.

Doesn't need to be metal if you're not scraping it across rocks- it's all about assessing what you're actually likely to see out there. If you're only ever going to bounce road debris off it, "plastic" (which is actually fiberglass reinforced plastic if I recall, so the same as the bed itself) is going to save your bottom for essentially no weight gain... and truth be told you can probably scrape it across a rock or two as well as long as you don't make it a habit.

My dad threw away my old straps with the rubber on them before I got the chance to put them on my new aftermarket tank straps... Does anyone have recommendations for what I could use in place? I can not find any replacements online. Do I even need the rubber?

How? I literally took one strap off and put the new strap on. Did you have a third set of straps? Did you just let your tank dangle?

I'm just curious what steps were taken to arrive at this situation.

I supported the tank with a jack and replaced them one after another. I realized after the fact that I should have reused the rubber protectors and when I went to put them on the new straps, they were not were I had left them cause they got thrown away.

Can anyone shed some light - the "Fitment Guide" on Amazon says that this part number, ST323, does NOT fit the 2017 Tacoma - but does for FJ... are they the same straps? I have a set of Cali Raised skids and mine's a sport, doesn't have the lil studs so I would love to buy a pair and install this thing finally, but not if they don't fit. Thanks.

Obviously not powerful brakes, however if you had a marlin or Walmart entry level bike here you go.

    2 brakes for >$30
