Let me start by saying, I’m very sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the pain of loosing a parent… I only hope that he lived a long and good life. Personally, I think this is the perfect thing to share on here… though this site was initially designed for the truck community, I believe it’s main intention was to bring friendship with others through the common denominator of the Toyota lifestyle. That said… congratulations on your health achievements and recognition of a decline and willingness to adjust your lifestyle for the better. It’s so easy these days to be lazy and let ourselves go, yet so hard to change and better our way of life. I myself have been trying to find that common balance between the eating better, and exercising more… rather than just plopping on the couch after a long week, and boredom eating crap foods. I applaud the!

 

Thanks. Sincerely. My dad had a good run and most would be happy to live the life he lived. He grew up dirt poor in Cumberland and lost his dad when he was 11. He joined the Army at 15 by altering his birth certificate. He was 10 days into bootcamp and his aunt caught wind and ratted him out. They sent him back home. He left (legally) for Navy bootcamp on his 17th birthday and served as a SeaBee during the Korean War. Got out of the Navy in 54 and became a Baltimore City Firefighter. Dad retired from the FD and got bored and became a National Security Agency Federal Police Officer and he was named officer of the quarter and officer of the year during his career. He retired from NSA in 96 and lived a charmed life after that. Traveled, saved our family farm property in W. Va. that my brother still has. Took care of his family and lived an honorable life. He went to bed on May 28th at the age of 88.5, kissed my mom, his wife of 65 years and told her he loved her and he didn't wake up. I'll take it. Sad but far from tragic. Thanks for hearing my story.

That to me sounds life one hell of a great life!! Sounds like an amazing man with a life full of accomplishments who loved his family as much as his community. I only hope that one day someone will say something 1/2 as great as that about all of us!

 

Congrats man! I know how you feel. I had sciatic pain since February of last year. Im 49yo. I had back surgery in July. I worked up until the day of my surgery but because of the pain I couldn't do much else. Neurosurgeon told me because of my muscular build the surgery took a hour longer than expected. He had to manipulate my nerves to gain access to my L5/S1 disc. Pain was 1000% worse for months after the surgery so my movement & obviously any physical activities was very limited. Past few months I'm finally able to do chores, bicycle & hike again. I gained 40lbs because of this back issue. My blood pressure increased. I'm a big guy, im usually 260lbs but because i was laid up my weight jumped up to 300. 2 months ago i cut back my portion size of my meals, started drinking alot more water, cut out my occasional beers & stopped eating after 7pm. I'm down to 280lbs, still more to go but I definitely feel alot better. My bs has decreased. I'll tell ya that nerve pain is awful! I had constant sharp pain shooting down my leg 24/7, couldn't even get any decent sleep due to the pain.
