Electrically ignorant and want to install some lights on my 2000..

So I've never wired or installed any new electronic parts before, and I'm looking to install an ARB bumper and a spot/flood light combo. I haven't been able to find a good video of how to best install modern lights on an old truck.

Any help trying to understand how to install/wire them, and how/where to install a switch would be greatly appreciated.

Also any recommendations for lights would be cool. Was looking at ARB Solis lights but would be open to any others of similar quality and perhaps less cost.

Not a complete answer but check out the various switch panels. What I like about these are that all the fuses and relays are included and wired under the hood, just a wire to the controller goes into the cab. This puts all the "messy" bits into a nice clean container that's easy to mount.

Post in your region forum and offer a case of beer for someone to stand beside you pointing out specific locations and what they serve. Maybe toss in a pizza and they will help with the actual wiring.

 

that nilight panel is on sale for $89.99, was looking at them, again ive one in 09. my nephew just ordered one for his truck too. i may order the 8 gang panel for my Gambler500 vehicle!

also to the OP Nilight makes some very solid lights I own many of them. and I also don't get near as pissed off when one is stolen. or I manage to break one

 

You have A LOT of options to choose from....

Something like a switch pros control panel has the relays (or equivalent IC circuits built in) but then you have the problem of where to mount the switch pros. Meso and other places has a custom panel that looks factory if you want to go that route. I am a fan of the Toyota Style push buttons at CH4x4 and ordered a few custom switches for my ditch and bumper lights. Check out this post in my build thread. If you look at the schematic you will notice the negative wire going from the relay to the switch - wiring a positive trigger is acceptable is well I just wire all my switches to close the circuit to ground rather than positive. The engine bay pics look a little busy but that is just because I have a low voltage disconnect wired up, an accessory fuse block, a winch disconnect + fuse, and a few other things.
