Looking for some guidance if anyone is familiar. I just bought a Savage Off-Road bumper that came off a 3rd gen 4Runner, like in the picture below. I am reading that the T4R and Taco have differences in the frame rails (and even year vs year in the taco). Does anyone know exactly what I’d need to do to fit this to my 2000 Tacoma? I am reasonably handy (don’t weld though) and not opposed to just tearing it apart to see, but if anyone has experience with this, I’d love to talk through it to create a plan. Thank you!

If you are running the Toyo MT 255/85/16 which are 33.6" (measured) and you can't fit them under 2nd gen toyota even strapped to the back.. my diff hit the spare while flexing and then with diff cover not a chance.

I even cut off the brackets to pull it back to aftermarket bumper which offered more space than stock.

BFG KM2 255/85/16 are like 32.5" so should work.

Don't rely on the specs..measure them

i'm also one of THOSE guys, its fun, its a tool like anythinjg else. however where your at and where you want to go will that require a trailer and all that investment? also there is constant pressure from the general public that these things are a nuisance on public roads (forest roads) and there is a constant push to limit access on where SXS can go, and even a big push to limit them to OHV areas only.
i dont know that much will ever come to these ideas, but the popularity of them has increased 10 fold the pressure on the land and popular camping/recreating areas, that the forest service is hearing the voices and entertaining ideas. i've already beeing seeing areas and trails being closed to OHV use, and unfortunately some closures to ALL motorized use.

you might be surprised how far your T4R will take you with a mild lift and tires.

Yeah it's a shame, feels like all hobbies seem to be getting slowly ruined by a bunch of bad apples with no consideration.

You're absolutely right about the T4R, it's gotten me through a lot of stuff that I've said "hell naw!" at first glance but after getting a game plan and a good line and a spotter it absolutely crushed it.

Anyways my thoughts on it are serious TL;DR but there's so many considerations back and forth.
GF has a quad but it's getting old and she's getting to the point where she's considering selling it, I get all manner of happy juices flowing looking at the Polaris MRZR but of course that's not for sale to the general public.
The T4R could tow a SxS but it's maybe not the most comfortable thing, I need some kind of step on the T4R to get my family members in so do I go for sliders or just side steps, blah blah blah...

EDIT: I think probably what I should do is rent a SxS a couple of times and see if I enjoy the open air wheeling before committing to something.

I've been refurbing a second hand high clearance, swing out drop down rear bumper with friends/welding instructor when I can (rarely) get access to manpower and equipment. Not much room for do-overs. It ain't pretty, but I'm learning as I develop my first build and am thankful for help.

We've replaced the swing out hinge and latch assemblies with 4x Innovation parts, fabbed a rear tire carrier in the center of the swing out. I'm redesigning the drop down table, looking forward to having the bed closed again so I can put some shit back there. Before I do though-

    1) Cannibalized the OEM rear camera from the OEM tailgate. I'll be welding a bracket to bolt the replacement metal bracket to- OEM plastic shattered. What do I need to know before choosing a location for it, as far as OEM camera function? No love for the blue screen in the rear view mirror. Vertical midline best?

    2) Looking for a way to mount my Amazon track boards to my drop down table, so they ride inside the tailgate during the season, are easily accessible when TG is open, and drop down with the tray. Take off U bolts don't seem to work, not sure I love permanently attached safety hazards, nor randomly drilled holes. Anyway do, or see this before?

TL;DR Need a grown up to show/tell me where to relocate OEM camera, and seasonal/accessible mount ideas for track boards.

    TIA!

    1. I think location of the camera depends on the video quality. They might make or diy a bracket to mount it center of your new spare location I have a camera above my license plate on the PS. As long as I can see the cars behind me, I'm good.
    2. Good spot to tuck them boards. Again diy and start with mounting the boards together a light frame then weld the frame to the inside square of the TG. I recall the swing out and I'm happy you got the shop time to fix it up!
Sounds like your in the right direction, hope you took some pics to share:thumbsup:

@Atl-atl You're right, my trigger finger posted before it got pics.

@PilotBoy352 The ubolts don't fit the boards, I did play with your idea. I could plasma cut 'em though.

@Yacob_D I have the bracket we cut off, and a spendy new one I fixed up to actually fit. I might catch up with you to look at yours. I'm concerned about ripping off parts when gravity helps the spare down. It's the back-up camera- don't want to squish a kid.

I'm going to weld up a new drop down tray out of heavy 1in square tube.

I know that one of these companies has a camera replacement for exactly this application. I just don’t remember who it was. The traction boards could be mounted vertically behind the tire if that’s an option for you, or you can weld in a hitch receiver type add on to fit inside the hub of the spare wheel, and fab up a simple frame that plugs in and the boards mount to that. Completely modular and easy to remove/install on the fly…

Edit: I have scrap receiver tubing if you need some and can send you a rough sketch on my idea of that helps clarify it lol

If you’re still thinking inside you could space the table out away from the tailgate just enough to mount the boards horizontally behind the spare, kind of sandwiched between the spare tire support and the drop down table.
