It's surprisingly hard to find any details on the head gasket issues with the early 5VZs. Apparently some of them weren’t installed right and leaked externally, but I think most were replaced.

Is the tilt column the same between 95-02?

I seem to think the 95-97 electronics are different for wipers and clock spring

 

I think the hardware is the same but the wiring and whatnot may not be.
