Ik lol I’m just a little nervous of wearing them down really fast in the highway. I am considering the Yokies though.

We had this discussion before; just go A/T.

You're not in the mud, or even off road enough to warrant the need for M/T's.

You'll hate the added noise, the added wear, and the larger need to rotate more often.

I feel like lack of maintenance contributes, to a degree, to certain cars bad reputations.
"My car broke down at 100k, this thing is unreliable."
"When did you, for example, last change the oil?"
    "Ummmm..."

If you're shits all in good repair and you rotate them you should still get like 40k mi out of any major MT

Yea I've just been confused on the sludging issue on the 97-01 1MZs and 5S engines. There was a class action lawsuit, even though a lot of it was probably caused by poor maintenance.

Yea I think my old 98 had been wrecked or wheeled really hard by the POs and just not reported to insurance. It turned out one of the manual hubs was bent, and then it turned out the rear axle couldn't be aligned because of a bent frame/axle housing/spindle. I had a PPI done and everything, but they didn't catch any of those issues. Not the internal frame rust or cracked exhaust manifold either.

MTs are for this, not dirt roads that got wet

    In my humble opinion

Manufacturers know all too well minivan owners won't maintain them. When Ford asked Nissan to make them an engine for the first gen Windstar Nissan refused to sell the VG30 as is to them because they knew no one would change the timing belts on time. So they offered to make the cams lower lift and relief cut the Pistons just a bit to make them non interference. It still saved Ford a ton of money.

Not really no. A couple. But you have to neglect doing the oil pretty regularly for them to sludge up. They do develop varnish pretty quick compared to a 2gr though

They're good for that but they're weirdly hard to beat on slick rock too. I think if your vehicle is a dedicated wheeler then MTs are worth it.

That being said. I would not actively search for a 1/3mz car. The GR is 10x better. And old now

I feel like most people just don’t do maintenance in general other than oil changes these days unless they’re car enthusiasts.

I’ve looked at those but they seem like a pretty mild AT. They’d probably be god enough for me though.

    Yep!

And that's some backyard hillbilly shit I'll never partake in.

A small mud pit to go through/cross over is one thing, but to hang out at the watering hole constantly double dipping...fuck that.

The MZ engines fall into a weird category, I really don't dislike them but they're pretty inefficient for car/van engines. The rare supercharged 3MZ in a Lexus can be a nice find though.

I can see them being good on slick rock. I didn't think about that angle.
I just wouldn't want to daily them. I've seen them a lot lately on new Tacomas/other mid-sized around here.
