I’m pretty sure it’s a mechanical lock and unplugging the battery won’t do anything but that doesn’t matter though. Here’s how I did mine - one side at a time.

    1. Full lock (both ways) at ride height. Based on how much uptravel I have I estimated where to cut. Mark with paint pen or silver sharpie.
    2. Remove tire and start cutting
    3. Remove coil and bump stop, replace tire, full lock, jack up tire until metal on metal
    4. If tire hits go back to step three. If it doesn’t, time to weld
    5. Remove tire, weld, try not to catch truck on fire
    6. Repeat other side
    7. Enjoy being able to steer

It’s definitely easier. Although probably wouldn’t do in snowy areas.

Do I get to stay in the group once I get these mounted?!?

Also waiting on new leaf springs from Alcan. But need to sell my DIY deck storage, so I can get a proper vehicle weight.

Yes, it’s not hard as they are emulsion and you can remove air/oil via the schrader to get them apart. Assembly can be a little more challenging but it’s doable. I purge the air out multiple times as air gets trapped during assembly and can make it a PITA.

You also have to adjust your oil volume to make sure you don’t hydro lock the bump. Best to fully compress once assembled (without a charge obviously) and make sure you can fully stroke. You’ll get a harsh bottom out before full compression if you’ve got too much oil.

Yours are this fancy IFP ones though yeah? Not sure if that matters. I did cycle them though since I had zero idea how much oil to put back in.

On mine if I press down the seal body enough to to get to the snap ring I’ve got less than 1/2” to work with between the body and the bump head (or whatever it’s called). I could try taking that off which would make it easier but I couldn’t get it off. Hopefully they don’t ever leak.

I’ve never pulled apart foxes but do they come apart like a shock where you screw off the cap on the bump pad side, press in the seal body, then expose the snap ring? That’s how my kings are. Leaving the bump pad on I could barely get the snap ring in because there is zero room between the body and bump pad. But if that can come off it’ll be easy. Mine wouldn’t budge so I had to do it with it on.

still got a ways to go but I made some progress. Probably finish cutting the passenger side tomorrow and start patching it up.

Pics show mechanical bind. Still need to clearance for lock to lock.
