All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
It goes like that sometimes. Education on what doesn’t work is priceless

So, you cut your internet cable to be able to go to the range. I see.....

    1. Next time you mount something to your slide (or receiver), check the underside, to ensure the screw does not protrude. (I'm sure you always will now!)
    2. Locktite is your friend - blue, not red.
    3. Lessons learned are always a good thing. Sometimes, good deals really aren't. Sometimes, some ammo just won't function in a specific gun.

Any day at the range is a good day. :p

The barrel was and still is a fantastic deal and upgrade. I just need to go back to and H1 and not H2 which isn't a big deal. Same thing was needed for my mk18.
I mounted the reddot with the slide on the frame. Didn't even ever occur to me to check which now that I'm thinking about it, I remember reading this was an issue with MOS so my fault for not remembering. You're right, won't happen again.

    It's a really easy to forget/not realize.

As my friend likes to say, it's a self-correcting problem. LOL

I wanted to wait, but next week I am hella busy..

Had some free time this week, so I took a chance - there was only one person in front of me; I was in/out in about 45 minutes, picked up a Masada S. Went to the range yesterday to test it out +

Now I gotta order the tritium sights for it - -

People think they can just buy a gun like buying groceries now. All the stores Ive gone to are swamped, and with a lot of sketch looking people that you dont typically see in gun stores.

I stopped by my favorite gun & pawn last weekend and got a new M&P Shield 45. Was in and out in 10 minutes.

I inherited a Ruger Mini 30 and a Russian SKS from a good friend of mine that recently passed. The SKS shows no visible sign of being fired and has definitely not been refurbished. I have yet to put my borescope down it and that will definitely tell the story if it ever has. Haven't looked close at the mini 30 yet but its in like new shape. I’d imagine its been fired since he took the time to put a sling on it but it hasn't seen much use if it has. Ive never had a firearm I didn't shoot but I’m torn on whether or not to shoot these at the moment.

Nice guns. They look pristine. If it were me I’d shoot them. I’m sure your friend would want you to shoot them. A friend of mine left me a couple pistols a few years ago. Every time I take them to the range I think about my departed friend. Brings back good memories.

This is somewhat random, but in the scenario depicted in the target (bad guy holding knife/gun to the head/throat of a hostage), is it advisable to aim for the head or would that cause some involuntary muscle movement that could also end the life of the person being held hostage?

First of all, you're risking an errant shot in a high stress situation which risks the hostage life. Second, if there is some involuntary muscle contraction/movement, it could also end the hostage life. Seems like a lot of risk for potential reward. Or does the body go instantly limp and a successful shot would resolve the matter with no harm to the innocent?

Imagine a triangle from the corners of the mouth to the tip of the nose. A straight shot will hit the medulla oblongata which will cause the muscles to go completely limp. There is also minimal bone for the bullet to penetrate meaning the bullet is less likely to be deflected. A shot to other parts of the brain can cause the muscles to constrict or spasm which could lead to an unintentional discharge if their finger is on the trigger. When I attended an Advanced Pistol Marksmanship course several years ago our focus was essentially a Mozambique drill with two to the body and one to the head at ranges from 10 to 50 yards. The head shot was focused on the tip of the nose.

This was the face target I used for the entire weekend of the class. The shots circled in red were from another target overlaid at the end of class when we did rapid fire mag dumps from 40 yards.

It was the end of the day and we had mags loaded with training ammo. This was back when 9mm was only a few cents per round.

Below is the face target from the mag dumps.

In a situation like that you would 100% want to wait till the knife/gun is no longer pointed at the victim. It is also a high risk shot for something incredibly bad to happen. It is a fun drill to practice getting some tight shots in. It is stressful enough trying not to get the -35 to -40 points on your score. Couldn't imagine trying to do it in real life. I was playing the compressed surprise break on the hostage target. That was rough as well.

They are both in incredible shape. The Mini 30 has been fired but couldn't have been much. Looked up the serial number And it was made in 1992.

    The SKS is 100% unfired.

As of now, I will probably shoot the mini thirty a little but, I dont plan on shooting the SKS.

I stuck the bore score down them and here’s how they look.

    Mini 30:

    SKS:

Edit: I did run a bore snake with nothing on it, though each barrel once to get the dust out of them.
