Got my first ride of the season in a few days ago… it’s been really wet here in SE Michigan. It’s an 2015 Trek Superfly 6, converted it from a
2x10 to a 1x12 beginning of last year, had to put a new wheel on the back because I kept breaking spokes… It’s a bit wider than the front now, but she is dialed in right now! Also those looking for bike racks, watch FB Market place or Craigslist. Picked up the 1up,with the third bike extension for $150…. Literally felt like I stole it.65C83C5E-AB16-425B-9E9C-3D859D534A7F.jpg

Does anyone have any opinions on the following tailgate bike pads: RaceFace T2 Half Stack, Fox Factory Overland Split or Bomber Strap? My Tacoma was rear-ended and looking to replace my damaged Yakima Ridgeback hitch mount rack. I only need a one bike setup, and looking for an easier setup than a hitch mount. Any and all suggestions/reviews would be appreciated. Thanks again for your help!

I’ve got the Raceface T2 half stack. It seems well made, holds the bikes securely, and the olive color looks good on QS  It’s the only pad I’ve used so I can’t compare it to others.

Side note for setup. If you aren’t leaving it on for extended periods, I don’t find the setup for a tailgate pad to be any faster than my hitch rack. Routing and securing the straps is easy, but it does take a few minutes. Easiest carrying option is to just toss the bike in the bed, or a towel/blanket over the tailgate.
    YMMV

Thanks for the info. That was the one I was leaning towards. I also have a 2017 Off-Road in Quicksand and thought it would look good, but I don't buy on looks alone. Lol Have you had any problems with the RaceFace T2 Half Stack? Thanks for your opinion, take care!

    Cool, buy whichever you like.

No problems with the T2. Only bought it since Raceface was running 50% off everything at the time. Like I mentioned, it takes more time to setup than my 1Up hitch rack so it rarely gets used. The hitch setup is more practical for me.

I have heard some people discuss compatibility with current standard chainrings, I'd just need to find one that has 0mm offset (for the correct 55mm chain line) and has at least verified compatibility. I'm thinking there should be some good news on this front at Sea Otter, but I guess we'll see shortly.

5DEV has touted their Ti chainrings work with T-Type, but there currently isn't a 0mm offset version and they are very pricey. Additionally, I now have trust issues as I have their aluminum chainring that touts Shimano and SRAM 12 speed compatibility, but nowhere did it mention you have to run your Shimano chain with a SRAM master link, because the stock Shimano one will derail the chain by riding up and off of the chainring teeth. So, by that measure you can run basically any chainring with a Shimano 12 speed chain if you run the incorrect master link.

Finally got a proper shakedown of my Evo. I gotta say, it's a great bike. I'm really happy with it. It certainly feels at home in the fast and rough stuff, which I like. It has very smooth, predictable handling too. Def feels like a big bike in the tight, technical stuff but that's the trade off I was willing to make.

    Preach brotha.
I took the Dirt Jumper out for a ride through the city with my nephew, and must have Sprained my back. Felt it early in the ride but still pushed it. That was Thursday, and I still can't stand up straight. Lol. Was worth it tho.

    Howdy folks!

I’ve been lurking, reading, trying to learn as much as possible.
Anyway, been really wanting to get back into biking so I ended up with a Norco over the weekend. Really tried to go used but for an extra $200 I got brand new plus some extras.

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s adventures and sharing mine.
Hopefully get the rack & tent on my truck this weekend then figure out how/where to mount the bike.

I’m looking into a way for bike transportation…

I came across the Square One Creations Side Ride Bike Mounts which look pretty awesome. Especially since I will have a RTT on the truck.
Seems I will also need something to hold the forks in place which I was recommended Rocky Mounts. The Drop Top looks the most ideal.

Anyone have experience with either of these pieces? Pros? Cons?
I really only need this type of mount for camping trips so I have bed room. Around town I might just toss the bike in the bed. Or not since the side mount looks awesome haha.

    Thanks!

No experience with Square One, but I have the Drop Top, along with a few other Rocky Mount fork mounts, and I really like it. The other mounts make you hold the bike while you thread the axle through, they are less than ideal. I like the drop top although I'm convinced that lock is for looks only, it's not stopping anyone from removing the axle if they really want to.
