New pop up camper? Topo Toppers

What material is everything built from? Painted wood?

Could you share a link to those wiring connectors you are using as a pass through into the camper?

 

Just spent a month down in the Baja with my Mesa. Couldn’t be happier with the build quality and overall camper itself. The attention to detail is impressive throughout.

We experienced a bit of condensation on cooler nights when we left the topper open through the day when it was warm. If we closed the topper through the day and opened it before bed we didn’t seem to get any condensation. We also cracked the lower windows and and had the tent windows open up top to create some air flow which seemed to help. I plan on installing a low profile marine solar fan to help with air flow aswell.

For roof racks I used my thule foot pack and rails from my century canopy with their L track. Just needed to drill a hole in each foot pack to accommodate the the threaded bolt and nut used for L track. We had two 9’ surfboards on the rack for almost 6000km with no issues. If you have a Mesa and want to pop the top without removing surfboards/snowboards etc I recommend pushing the racks as far forward to keep the weight in front of the hinge point of the gas struts to avoid settling through the night.

We had some heavy rain our way back to Canada for a few nights of camping, no leaks whatsoever from the canvas.

Dealing with Katy and Thomas was excellent. Went out of their way to accommodate any questions and help however they could. Install date was bang on, they had us on our way in no time.

Read through the thread and have gotten some tips but curious to see if anyone else has tried something different. Planning on doing some light installation. Campped a few nights in 25 to 30 degree weather and actually stayed pretty warm. Down side was the condensation. Even with the windows slightly cracked, 2 ppl and 2 dogs just made the ceiling drip with water. Thinking of just doing a thin layer of insulation up top and save for a diesel heater next fall.

is the lighting in the bed from Topo? or DIY?
I’m about to put the deposit down for Mesa camper. Just having a last minute doubt a little.. but seeing everyone’s set up here is awesome.

Also, does anyone have trouble going in any garages?

 

I DIY my bed lighting with a kit off of Amazon. $16 two piece 5' topo topper lighting kit was not in my budget . I decided to spend on topo topper side doors (amazingly my favorite feature) and a rear sliding glass window .

 

Just pulled the trigger and made the deposit for Mesa.
I will be joining you all. Looking forward to it.

 

Getting really close to pulling the trigger on one of these... anyone in the Bay Area have one that I could check out in person?

 

Are those bed panels new ones that Topo has switched to?

What did you tie the 3rd brake light into?

 

Just hit my 5 month mark with the Badlander. My only regret is not getting one sooner! I have several thousands of miles on it, with close to a thousand of those being on the trail. Haven't has an issue with it. I started the year with a goal to spend 30 nights in it this year. I'm already up to 20. Looks like I will be going way over 30. I've still been too lazy to insulate it lol.

 

Just recently wired my third brake light on my 17'. Tapped into the drivers side taillight for both brake and running. Let me know I can take a picture of the wire I tapped into.

 

Just got back from a week ski tour with my Badlander and encountered the worst winds I’ve experienced in it yet, and it held up like a champ. Entire truck was getting pushed around by strong gusts all night and no problems. A bit of flap here and there, but nothing unreasonable.
Have had it out for many snow storms for its second winter with also no issues from snow loading. Loving the functionality and versatility of the set up.

 

great to hear feedback from some harsh condition usage. I’m picking up my Mesa in July and cannot wait!

Man I’m seriously thinking of selling my gfc for the badlander. My biggest gripe about gfc is no side windows nor roof fan

 

I've debated between GFC and Topo.. I feel you.
Depends on your needs. I felt Topo offers more options you can customize to your needs.
