I decided to keeping the SPC upper control arms. It turns out that I haven't been greasing the bushing collar. Also I can get new boots for the ball joints for $23. I like the service options that are available for SPC. The arm itself is incredibly strong and the finish is all there good.

 

I see people complaining about how hard they are to work on online. The engine bays are pretty messy with wires and vac lines everywhere. The 5VZ seems to be more enjoyable to work on for the most part, with a cleaner engine bay.

 

You can't complain about vacuum until you've worked on an FC RX7

That must be from the malaise era. FJ60s are like that too, it’s madness.

 

I realize you're used to things sucking having owned a Ford, but we're talking about vacuum lines

 

I agree. I did learned a trick for replacing the plastic heater core line fittings without removing the heater core. A buddy traded his off then one of the core line fittings broke off because he was quoted some big money to remove the core from the dash.

 

1980s, malaise is more 1970s

 

OEMs still had a real hard on for vacuum lines in the 80s in any case.

 

I’ve heard of some people cutting a hole in their firewall to avoid removing the dash for that lol. It’s a good thing I don’t hear about many Toyota heater cores just randomly failing.

 

Reminds me of a 64 Continental with all of the vacuum dashpots and vacuum storage canisters and everything controlled by vacuum under the dash -- power door locks as I recall.

 

Yeah those have a ton a vacuum and hydraulic (hydro windshield wipers haha). My dad had a 61 Continental Convertible when I was a kid and a 63

 

Just slide the unit up or down to see how the plastic parts are held to the core by JIS screws. It can go badly if a JIS driver is not used.

 

I drove a 63 that was my bosses around when I was about 16. I remember all of the vacuum hissing sounds when you turned on any control except the radio.

Nope, added 45mins a day for high school and a little less for elementary and we meet the yearly requirement.
