Tacoma Vs. Rivian

You think it will be that much heavier? The math I did works out to an additional 30kwh of batteries for ~400lbs more. The current battery pack is around 135kwh and 1755lbs.

 

Max Pack has always been 180kWh (Standard is 105kWh)

 

It was advertised as 180kwh but also advertised that it would go into production a long, long time ago. I doubt it’s actually 180kwh anymore given the new range estimates.

 

No doubt the extra 45kWh storage (if that is what it is) for $10k would be a bargain if they update with Vehicle to Grid, relative to buying 3+ Tesla Powerwalls.

Does anyone actually want seats and a table that fold out from the bed? Just more gimmicks and doodads.

 

Eih, less doodads there then Toyota has just in the cam of this minivan motor, or TSS.

Probably more folks percentage wise will sit on a rivian bedside table than take a Tacoma Off Road off road.

Seems like it would be unnecessarily expensive to repair rear quarter panel parking lot accidents.

I got a quote from Rivian Insurance today (underwritten by Nationwide) at $146/month versus State Farm at $152/month and that’s with multiple discounts for other vehicles and policies.

 

Looks like a blue Minion.

Has anyone taken a legit road trip in their Rivian yet. I have only received negative feedback about long distance driving.

 

Reminds me of the guys who tested long distance driving in a Tesla vs Mach-E, the Mach-E was something like 7 hours behind the Tesla by the end of the first day, that was until the guys in the Mach-E stopped using the Ford Network charger map and starting using other ways to find chargers.

I like hitting up various routes on ABRP .

Its interesting to look up the different vehicles for various routes. For example, I looked up a Tesla vs a Ford Lightning on a trip I routinely take and it absolutely convinced me that I don't want a Ford Lightning, even the big battery. Still, aside from like Wyoming I mapped a ton of routes through the middle of the country (aka not CA, NYC, Seattle, etc) and the charging times and locations were pretty good.

That is also pretty much best case, things like clogged chargers, slow chargers, or those that are out of commission will just add time. Plugshare gives good feedback as to various chargers and locations.

If you do routes on ABRP make sure to consider charging at overnight stops or at your location. If you multi-day travel you have to make sure to set the route to a hotel with a charger and then start the next day fully charged. On the flip side the way it plans routes has you hitting your destination at like 5% battery, thats ok if there is a charger there but if there isn't then turning around and heading home is going to suck.

 

Probably even more money than that. The other option is to buy a folding table and two comfortable chairs at Walmart for $100 and not have to sit right at/on your truck. Apparently that’s not cool enough though.

 

I could see it maybe being useful for a job site supervisor work center but not much else.

 

@crazysccrmd do you remember how long it was between when you selected your R1T off of the R1 Shop and when you were able to schedule your delivery?

 

Right about six weeks. Mine was still at the factory and had to ship out to Colorado, I’ve seen other people get them within a week or two when the truck was already at or enroute to the service center.

 

The rivian looks like a cartoon ghost. Give me the tacoma any day of the week. I want a truck that looks like a truck
