I've been digging around the internet and haven't been able to find any information on the process of filling a brand new 6 speed transmission. Do you fill it up like normal and drive the truck down the driveway and then fill it as the oil pumps through the housing? Thank you in advance for the help!

    I'm asuming 6spd manual?
On manual transmissions you fill them up to the bottom of the fill hole and go, there should be no need to top it off but it wouldn't hurt to recheck it after you drive it a bit.

Edit: didn't realize yours was a manual. No driving necessary. Fill it to the proper level like stated above and she's good to go.

There is no oil pump in *your* manual gearbox, btw. The gears are partially submerged in gear oil and as the gears spin it carries oil up throughout the trans to rest of the gears and bearings.

Some manuals do have an oil pump but unlike an automatic there is no torque converter, valve body, or clutch packs to fill so the level in a manual will not change substatially as all the oil returns to the sump just like an engine.

Personal preference. I like to pop out the shifter and fill through the top rather than from underneath.

I was reading that the total oil capacity was around 10qts I'm assuming that's for the auto guys though after reading your post. I've never opened a transmission so I wasn't too sure what the internal differences would be. But after reading your post makes more sense.

Don’t go hog wild it’s kinda slow to drain Unless you really mess up it won’t run down into your armpit like it tries to from underneath.

I ordered a whole case won't be running out anytime soon. Wasn't able to get it when I lived in Hawaii so I'm thinking the royal purple wasn't a good choice since my synchros are messed up in 1-4th gears and I can barely get the truck in reverse now. Wasn't able to find a shop to rebuild my trans in jersey so I ended buying a new one from a dealer in Kansas

Make sure you get the little crush washers for the plugs. I forgot to one time and decided fuck it and reused one and of course it leaked
