Checked out a Tacoma, felt like I didn't fit in it.

Yeah, the tacoma telescopic steering wheel adj. range is a joke....it's practically non-existent. My tundra had at least 4 times more range of adjustment.

 

I think y’all should part out. I need spares of a lot of stuff.

 

Im the same. But I figured it out. Try moving the steering wheel outward a lil.

 

I have a 2017, bought brand new. I think I have tried every configuration in 6 years

I'm the same size as the OP, and had to "learn" a new way to climb in. Rather than park your butt on the seat and swivel in, it is head first, right elbow on armrest, and a lift with that arm.

It's different, but not hard to get used to. And at least for me, the reward is a superb driving position that has proven itself in 500+ mile days without feeling beat-up.

 

Step up, then duck. Once in, I’m good on headroom. (6’1”, 185lb, mild tempered…).

These are called midsize, but they’re really contemporary compact trucks.

If you don’t feel right while sitting in it, don’t buy it. Tacoma fit is bipolar: regardless of height/weight/etc, people are either completely fine and don’t even notice, or they curse it daily.

5' 8" 145 and about 10% body fat and I find it cramped. I've been in 1/2 tons for the last 2 trucks so I'm still getting used to it. Once I'm settled in it's OK. Getting in and out requires about the same amount of effort as it does with the Porsche Cayman it's parked next to.

 

5'9 145 lbs. I step up onto my running board and stand up on it and just ease myself into the seat butt first. I don't have to, but I've grown accustomed to doing it that way.

 

6', ~230#. Fit just fine. I am okay with knees hitting the steering wheel as I get in. Of course, I'd prefer a Tundra, but a Taco is a lot more practical for what I need.

 

Weird. I'm 5'10'' 230lbs and fit just fine. Top of the wheel is even with the gauge cluster so it's not even at the highest setting and I've never hit my knees getting in.

Oh and I never skip leg day, no twig legs here.

 

What has this forum turned into?

I’m 6’1” and pretty. I love my Tacoma. PS. I’m extra thick around the calves. Like my post.

230 pounds of muscle?

Once upon a time ago I was 250 pounds on a 5’10” frame. I was a fat pig. 190 now.

 

I’m 5’10” and my legs fit under the steering wheel just fine. The roof seems a bit low to my at times, however.

Maybe it comes down to how you’re built and maybe it’s what you’re used to driving.

 

Try a Frontier.

 

Mostly muscle, but there's a fair amount of BBQ and donuts by volume on here too.



Edited to add...it sounds like a lot of the people describing fit issues and contortionist routines have terrible hip mobility. Stay and/or get limber fellas. It's only gonna get worse the older ya get.

As other have said, it does feel quite cramped. I am barely making it work. The compromise is that the size is useful for parking and maneuvering. The good news however is that the 3rd gen interior is expertly design and optimized (I dont know about other gens!). What I mean is that there are specific angles/orientations, configurations that will accommodate most body proportions. This is clear from a lot of the statements here as well. If you leave the 'zone' you will bump into something. But once you get dialed in, it is ergonomically quite nice. The main thing to think about is if a smaller truck will be an advantage in and of itself.

Overall, it took me a while to understand how to get comfortable. I did find nuanced ways to make it work.
