All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Just got off the bike. A few days of owning it and 631 miles later. This 890r is badass. My average Offroad speed has gone up by 15-20mph. I can’t explain how well this is balanced. I truely ride this like my 350xcw or 500exc.
If anyone near me wants to ride it, come on! I encourage any and all to experience this.
Perfect balance of power and weight.

I will be adding a bar riser and taller seat. Also think a plastic skid is in order. The bike comes with protection, but I am throwing serious gravel into this thing.

Took a lil scoot with a guy I used to work with, grabbed some bbq and enjoyed a beautiful day for a ride here in Central Tejas.

Looks like a used bike lot outside of work. One of everything.

I think everyone should own a 500 or a 350. I actually think the 350 was the sweet spot, just can’t run down the hwy…but to be honest the 500 can run hwy speeds, but it ain’t fun…lol. I am taking the 890 up to the top of the ridge tomorrow and will take some pics of the single track it can do. Maybe I will make some vids of this thing.

Ordered a new skid, bark busters and a seat concepts tall seat. The rally pegs made a big difference as they always do. If you don’t have wide pegs, you should check them out.

A friend just ordered a pair, so I'll get to look at them first hand. If they'll work as an overpant and won't cook me then I may eventually get something like that.

I agree with this assessment of the billion pocket backpacks. Totally useless.

For what I plan to put in it... enough clothing that I can ride to work in my gear and not violate the business casual atmosphere. Probably can wear any of my shirts under the jacket, and even a hoodie, but might need to carry a pair of shoes to change into. On the flip side of that, it'd be nice to be able to put the gloves and riding jacket in the pack while at the office. The boots will probably just live under my desk during the day. If I can also squeeze in/have space for lunch or drinks if I go off campus for breaks as well.

On my week off I would probably use the backpack for small errand runs. Something like picking up a gallon of milk, maybe some takeout (unlikely), or getting the mail.

I used a regular backpack with my previous bike and didn't mind it, but I didn't ride enough for it to matter. I could take 3 days worth of clothes to visit a buddy and it didn't kill me to do it. I'm also more than willing to stop and take breaks or smell the roses.

My plan for the tank bag is to have it carry the every trip items like wallet, phone, hat, glasses, etc. If there's enough space I'd like to keep a tire repair kit and some tools, even though I'm not a mechanic. The backpack would be for commuting, short trips, and errands as explained previously. If I get the saddlebag setup it will be way down the road and only for multiday trips. The holsters from the saddlebags would serve the same function as the backpack, but with added capacity. I'm really just looking for all-rounder kind of gear/luggage that will work for any odds and ends type of situation.

This was my hopes for a potential T7. Can ride aggressively in most stuff and still super streetable. My FE350 can do the single track, and even borderline hard enduro (at least what my skills allow) but I'd never take it on the highway. I have had it up to 75-80 mph at very short bursts though.

99% sure I'd kill myself on that kind of bike. Way too much performance for me. Love the way it looks, though!

@50Buck brought up the tank bag and I got to thinking that if I am going to be leaving my phone, iPad, etc in the tank bag, I want a tether as a back up in case the magnets fail. I remembered I had a Peak Design wrist strap so that became the tank bag tether.

    upload_2023-4-11_21-5-22.jpg

Then I went on a ride, rode through the twisties to eat lunch on the beach, then rode up the coast up to SF to visit my brother. All in all a good day.

Looks like a beautiful day for a ride there! Did you put any kind of protective film or anything down to prevent the bag/magnets from scratching the tank? I'm not sure I'm going to worry about it myself, but haven't decided.

Well, they ran out of the mesh jacket I wanted so I upgraded to the one I thought I'd move on to in a few years. Fingers crossed the size is right for me. :fingerscrossed:

So I went and checked the specs, it appears as though these run slacker than most. I agree it looks off, but it’s within spec. It looks like an insane amount of sag though…even feels like it when you wiggle it.
Definitely don’t wanna tighten it up and cook my primary drive.

I appreciate you taking notice and letting me know.

I haven't, but my Versys is also 15 years old with 42k+ miles on it so it's already got its share of wear and tear so I'm not worried about it.

I have heard of people leaving their bags on a dirty surface and picking up metallic shavings, and then putting that back on their tank and gouging the paint, or having a beer bottle cap or something get stuck to the magnets which then destroy the paint so it might not be a bad idea to get some sort of protection.

Ouch! I never thought about that with a magnetic bag. Probably because I hadn't planned on one, but that's definitely something to be aware of.
