Any tank bag on a bike taken off-road is going to wind up causing paint damage. You get a nice layer of dust and grime under the bag and mounting straps that just rubs into the paint.

For sure, but the shavings and bottle cap are a more visceral image. Made my sleepy brain flinch thinking about it.

Anyone have any insight on one of these? Going to look at it tomorrow.

I’ve sat on a few at the dealership but that it’s. Not my style of bike but it was comfortable and seemed well laid out. My BMWs have been trouble free so that wouldn’t hold me back.

We deal with this on mountain bike frames a lot. The gamer tip is to walk into your local auto clearbra / vinyl shop and ask if they have any scraps they're willing to part with. Last time I did that, they guy walked out with a 2x3ft sheet of clear vinyl from a job on a truck they just did and sent me on my way for just a couple bucks..

My neighbor has one but I rarely see him riding. I think most of that is us being on different schedules most of the time. Sounds sort of like a diesel when it goes by my house. He never keeps a bike longer than 2 years though so I can't say what reliability might be like on it.

I've run magnetic tank bags for years with no issues. When I take it off for fuel I usually just rest it across my instruments and GPS rather than sitting it down somewhere. I try to keep my tank waxed pretty heavily. Over time I can note some small surface flaws but usually a little compound knocks them out and it looks good again. I bought mine to ride so it's not going to look new forever.

I just designed and 3D printed these little brackets to keep my top box tail light wiring secure to prevent cargo from catching the wiring and ripping it out again.

No go for me. I need to be able to stretch my legs on longer rides. And as far as I know, there’s no way to do it with the boxer engine. The engine is just way too wide.

I just put my feet on top of my boxer engine when I wanted to stretch out.

I couldn’t. Too anal. The K1600B and GA are laid out perfectly for me. Different engine and it’s orientation with built-in forward footrests.

Had the best ride into work today. Low 60s so cracked the zipper and undid the sleeve zips. Left between the 7am rush and the 7:30 wave so I was in the odd 15 min gap where it was like people forgot to go to work. Left lane on surface streets open the whole way so not having to deal with traffic, and only hit one train crossing I had to slow down for while the gates were coming up. Feet never even touched the ground between home and work. One of those rides you actively recognize you're enjoying the whole time you're doing it. I needed that this morning:)

Sounds like DC area too, minus the train gates.

My F800 is the same way, it always looks really loose but is in spec. Long travel + long wheel base = lots o slack. I think 45mm/2 inches is standard for me?

Yeah just looked odd but if its within spec then you good. Looking again at the pic it looks like you were in gear and had rolled back putting the top under tension and the bottom ALL loose. Just paranoid with loose chains, buddy of mine has had two chains say bye bye on his 1290s and one took out the slave cylinder.

Speaking of chains... RMATVMC order showed up with chain and sprockets for my dirtbike! maybe ill get around to that today now that I have more room in my garage.

More room from selling off my beloved Honda 919 this past weekend, Had that girl for 13 years and 30k trouble free miles of hard canyon riding. It was time and the Super Tenere has quickly become my main street bike.

FYI a Honda 919 fits inside of a Honda Odyssey quite nicely.

Why not tether it to the somewhere other than handlebars? That way, if it falls off it won't impact your steering.
