Very familiar with it - we live by the Lackawanna State Park, about 11 miles from Carbondale and know all those areas where your family is from. You haven't lived until you've visited the Archbald Pothole State Park!!:rofl:

    Morning all:

I know about the Centralia Pa coal fire and was there a long time ago, I never heard of the Carbondale one. Are they one and the same, or are there two of them burning?

Two separate events, 82 miles apart. Same coal field though, it runs diagonally across northeast Pennsylvania. Both my grandfathers were miners. Paternal retired as a miner, maternal grandfather was killed in a collapse in 1929 leaving a widow and six children. My Mom was the youngest, she was 6 y.o. Back then it was common for kids to carry a bucket with them to school and on the way home walk along the rail tracks and pick up coal that fell from the coal cars to bring home for heat and cooking.

Carbondale fire excavation...imagine digging this hole one mile wide by a half mile. They'd excavate an area, move to next area and back fill the first with the debris from the next . Burning coal was dumped in a pond and then removed when it cooled.

Edit: This wasn't a rural site. Homes, schools, entire neighborhoods, etc. were bulldozed or burned to clear the area prior to the dig.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! After I got started mowing, it looked like I didn't need to. But, it got better looking when done. End of the month, should be looking good again. When it does get thicker, I'm going to take that dethatcher to a few spots.

No exciting Porsche to work on, but I did reset the "MAINT REQD" light in the Taco that the oil guys forgot. I feel so much more educated, now that L learned that. Off to a haircut, the Social Security office to drop off the "please tax me" form, Lowe's, :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:.

Have a great hump day! Or, Mid-Friday.

Thanks for the replies, like I said. I don't ever remember hearing about the one in Carbondale.
Saw people picking coal off the tracks many times when I was young, it helped them get a better supply when they would crack the coal hoppers just a bit while they were sitting in the rail yard behind their houses!

:annoyed: OK, just changed the bicycle tube, WTH kind of fill valve is on the new tube . Went on the puter and found out It's a Presta valve and not the common Schrader, just wonderful, nowhere on the box does it state that the tube is equipped with that valve, now I need to get an adapter so I can air it up, NOTHINGS EASY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Presta (skinny - common on those fancy foreign bicycles) and Schrader (common size on car tires).

Imagine my surprise to discover my Czech Republic velomobile has Schrader tubes, just not enough room to get a Presta head on the tube (it has 90mm drum brakes).

Front wheels have carbon fiber covers (low drag). You get the air valve by gently rolling it over on its side, from the inside of the wheel. Rear wheel bodywork means fine finessing to get the pump head on there (flat tire mead removing bodywork, 4mm hex key).

All my bicycle stuff (spare tubes/pumps) had to be duplicated with Schrader!

My bad, it is on the box that it is a Presta valve tube!
Anyway, went to the local Walmart to get an adapter which the puter said they have in stock, none there:annoyed:, so looked for a tube that would fit that had a Schrader valve, none there in the size I need. :annoyed::annoyed:
ALL the tires on everything I ever owned, and currently own, had/have Schrader valves, looks like I am now the proud owner of 1 tire that has a different valve on it, now the hunt is on for the darn adapter that I need to air it up!

Now, you have to replace and upgrade everything you own, so that it all matches and you have the right hardware...

    https://www.katanga.eu/waw/

WAW is the model name (named after a Dutch designer whose name escapes me)
    Kantaga is the manufacturer.

It's a recumbent bicycle with a monocoque carbon fiber shell. Carbon Fiber is strong, but collisions mean you need to replace everything.

I do have a camera on it, and I ride defensively. Size of a refrigerator going down the street, but invisible to motorists.

I have a "dork light" on an 18" piece of PVC, as rolling hills make it harder to spot at night. I need better headlights as they are good to 25 mph.

Thanks Tom. I'm a longtime cyclist and my next door neighbor has had several types of recumbents. I've never ridden one farther than around the neighborhood

Unless I'm missing it on the website I don't see a weight...help me out here?
Edit: Never mind, see it now in the price list

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

The first 16 solar panels are up - on the garage roof. 23 more today over the main part of the house. Our house was designed without attic space so they had to run the conduit/wires over the roof. Doesn't bother me at all. We should be fully inspected and producing electricity by sometime next week after inspections.

    Good morning Pals and Gal

Detailed Mrs. SpruceMica's minivan yesterday...all three vehicles done at Casa de SpruceMica. Central a/c coil cleaned, cleaner foam worked great. I think I'll take today off.
