Very tough workday again - and it was a short day as I took my Mom to the doctor. Bunch of inter office politics garbage and I’m stuck holding the bag.

I've raised my grandson. He has never like school and during the two years of the lockdowns he got really depressed and refused to do much homework. I had to work side by side with him. This year is much better, but I can tell you perseverance is important. Also, as others have mentioned, getting books he's interested in - even if they are comic like and mostly pictures - may be where you have to start. Also, don't hesitate to work with the school: teachers and counselors for support and alternatives as far as testing, assignments and grades.

I won't respond to each individual contributor to save you all the many posts. But I want to thank this community for many great ideas... a reoccurring theme in your suggestions was to finding something he is into, and too remain vigilant. I am up too both tasks. He is very into working on my trucks science and schematics. I'm going 2 go get a Chelsey manual for our trucks. See if I can bait him into "reading" a truck manual. I will keep you posted..

I got one kid who just wants to live laugh and ski (the boy in question) and the other is 11 and knows he wants to be the weapons officer on a Burke class destroyer. He crys when he gets second in anything...

How did you guys do this..... hats off 2 you dads.

Pre Covid we bought a Stihl RB200 for $299 it has a nice Koehler 5hp engine and puts out 2500psi. It looks like they are 2x’s price now, so probably out of you price range. It’s a nice medium duty unit. Warranty was pretty nice. No issues runs strong.

Brink-n-mortar bookstores are getting hard to find, but if you can find one in your local area or a good-sized library. See if he'll voluntarily go through and point out what he finds interesting. When I was 9 Beatle Bailey was my favorite, followed very closely by Garfield, with Heathcliff getting an honorable mention.

Your boys’ sound just like mine. My youngest loved having fun. Could often be found climbing trees and rocks. He loved astronomy and we bought many books on that subject. He now works for SpaceX. My oldest is in the AirForce and knew this was his calling. He is an overachiever; was an Honor Grad in basic, Ribboned in all 4 competencies, and was just named Airman of the quarter and Airman of the year for PACAF. Super proud of both my boys. Even though they are completely different and required completely different approaches. Just keep loving them through it. The greatest gift is to instill confidence and a belief that with hard work they can achieve many things.

We line em up and scrubb them down. This thing is amazing!. I love that it doesn't make too much pressure so a kid, or drunk adult can't strip the trucks. At 25 dollars a car wash you really want one of these. Plus it gives you an excuse to go to autozone for wheel cleaner, dash cleaner, wax, clay bars... come on Sundays is scrub day!!!

Matching part was pure coincidence. I no longer have that auto. Traded it for another MT

Very similar... oldest asked me the other day... Why fighters carry AIM-X missles if the Phoenix was capable of hitting planes at 100+ miles... I'm no weapons officer... so I said that. But clearly he will be

I'd love for an Airforce or Navy guy to answer that. I'll actually make him read it!

Short answer phenix was long-range for bombers had a gigantic radar from tomcat guiding it. Now we have smaller radar nisr sections due to stealth and slower planes that rely on teamwork with ships
