There have been plenty of people on here whose engines failed w/o any sort of "abuse" on their part. Shit just happens sometimes.

If it were me I'd read my dealer paperwork there's probably a 250mile/30 day return window or some other limited warranty. It's not like it magically took a shit the day you drove it off the lot.

Watch the youtube channel "Just Rolled In" and you'll never buy another used car again. Some sketchy crap out there where the "customer declined repairs".

 

After seeing what some shady dealers do selling used vehicles you'd never trust any of them to sell you a used car. I never had any luck years back when i graduated tech school buying a used vehicle from a dealer. There was always something constantly wrong.

 

If I were to buy a used 3rd gen I would only go certified preowned from a Toyota dealer. Its worth to pay a bit extra at a Toyota dealer to get the extended warranty to 100k.

It wasn't until i bought a 78 toyota wolverine that had been the dealerships owners truck that got me into owning toyota's ever since. Before that i had a datsun pickup which was good.

Toyota did oil change before i took it back to get checked, that's where they told me that.

Finally found an engine which has 383 Miles on it from a junk yard in Virginia out of 2022 Tacoma. Paid 8K and Haul all the way to WI. Currently I Had 97K miles on old engine. Its running but had to add oil after 1000 miles.

 

Wow! I don’t even think it’s broken in yet according to Toyota’s 500 mile break in recommendations.

Sucks that additional expense was necessary on what was probably already an expensive truck. It’s reasons like this I don’t buy used, regardless of the miles.

OP should be able to recoup a few K from selling the ‘bad’ engine. Hopefully the dealer you bought from is putting it in for free since they sold you a turd.

Not at all dealership sold me truck as is. I had to pay extra 3k to install engine at another place.

 

Would it be better to trade the truck in and use the 11000 dollars as a down payment on something else? Just a thought.
