6 mpg is rough that’s for sure! 4000 lbs is quite a bit for a taco. Good luck brother!

Installed a Pop & Lock and put on a Rough Country tri fold bed cover. Man, the Pop & Lock handle seems so chintsy - will see how long it lasts. Wish there was a better option for locking the tail gate.

yeah the thread for 2nd gens modifies the stock harness with grinding and swapping pins but ... ehh i'd rather not mess with the stock wiring since it's attached to the rest of the entire vehicle's primary harness. it's easier just to cut off the tail from the OEM speakers and do a proper splice ... those parts are getting thrown out anyway because the stock speakers are paper mache garbage.

I like having that feature. I know a guy that drives his 2006 Off Road 2 wheel drive on the beach every summer. He has never been stuck in 17 years. I am not that brave with my 2 wheel drive.

my secondary air injection system took a dump today with P2443 code. CEL and TRAC OFF lights came on. Dealer said it needs to be replaced, even though the recall was done in 2020. looking at a $1100 bill.

The only concern I ever have is high centering, which happened here, but it was snow, so it dug out no problem with the snowshoes I have.

Just cosmetic: Window Tint, radio knobs, temp control knobs, Tech-Deck, Tonneau bed cover, tail gate lock, de-chromed all badges inside and out, installed back up camera and custom bedside decals.
Installed a throttle enhancer....went with one on Amazon...cost a lot less than a Pedal Commander, and after talking with a fellow member that has the same one and used it for a while, I decided to give it a try...MAN...I was always skeptical about them, but I am really enjoying the response. I can scratch this one off my MODS to do list

I have belonged to several facebook groups and various Tacoma forums for 10 years. I followed most of them, and became much more active, during my 3rd gen ownership. I sold my 2016 Sport because of previous issues and other potential issues. My biggest concern was the dreaded timing cover seal failure. Once I passed the 5 year warranty, with only 25k miles, I was increasingly paranoid about this. Today, in a fb group, I read that a guy with a 2021, with only 15k miles, has the timing cover leak. Some Toyota mechanics have done this repair so frequently that they can remove the cab in 1 hour. They attribute this to the years of experience doing frame replacements under the 2nd gen frame recall. 2 of my previous trucks had the frames replaced and 2 had the crc treatment in the recall. My 3rd gen had an open recall for potential frame corrosion when I sold it. I am posting this as a public service to those that have, or are considering buying, a 3rd gen Tacoma. I truly loved my 3rd gen but I have 1000% more confidence in 2nd gens. For those on the fence about the 3rd gen just consider how you would feel, and the bill you would be facing, if the following picture is of your truck with a timing cover leak that is out of warranty.

I feel for you. I just had a P2442 code on Wednesday I cleared it called the dealer can’t get me in until next Friday. I’ve never had the recall done. Been running fine since I cleared but still not driving much being retired I can get by not driving much. Good luck to you.

Great post! I've been thinking about getting one of the last MT's assuming they're not on the 4G. I just can't do it because my truck is in great shape, had the frame replaced in 2021 and both hood and roof repainted. No issues whatsoever at 160k. I just got done telling my wife that we're going to keep the 2010 because I know I'd regret getting rid of it. Especially the first time the new truck had to go back to the dealership.
