Best they can do is spray cavity wax in the frame tubes, like they did with the front boxed portion of the Tacoma frames starting on 2018. I'm not sure if they do it for the 4Runner nowadays.

My comment was based on that I have seen this in the 3rd gen Tacomas and 5g 4 runners I have worked on.

What if Toyota won’t replace it? They aren’t replacing 4Runner frames that rust away. Even if they do it’s still a huge headache to deal with.

Absolutely, it’s gonna suck for the ones in that situation. But who knows right?

hmmm, can anyone confirm how the 3rd Gen Tundra is? Since it is getting the Trail Hunter package too, assume it would be the same.

edit: did find this from CBI, so the Tacoma might not be too bad for adding sliders.

Exactly. FJ frames disintegrate north of Georgia. Nobody’s getting replacements from Toyota.

I guess the real question is what the heck is hub size. The stupid new tundra went back to the 6 x 5.5 bolt pattern but the hub is smaller. Now all the tundra wheels won't transfer to all the older yotas! Way to screw us over there toyota

Ranger makes 270 hp, less than the 3.5L Taco. Colorado ZR2 makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft.

On paper the ZR2 makes similar torque as expected from the 4th gen Taco iForce Max, but the electric torque will be available at 0 rpm.

Same small hubs as the Tundra judging by the test mules:

Worse yet; they kept the 14 mm x 1.5 bolt size from the older 5-bolt Tundra wheels, so it’s even more incompatible.

Yup it’s gotta be the ZR2. I believe that article was not very accurate or outdated.

When I finally decided to buy another Toyota Truck, I see newer Toyota has so many problems now, and not just that but they are way over priced for "old tech". Reliability was always a Toyota selling point, but I guess no more. Both the new Ranger and Colorado are very attractive options for me now after looking more into them. I think both also look better than the Gen3 Tacoma. Please no one get your panties in a twist because of my own personal opinion on "looks".

These days I don't need a Full Size because I am NOT towing anymore, and I was 100% locked into the Gen4 Tacoma, but now not 100% All-In like I was 2 weeks ago. The Gen4 Hybrid Tacoma is still my front runner, but I want to see a good 6 months of real world experiences before I commit to buy such an expensive vehicle, and we all know the Gen4 will go up a lot in pricing. Both the Ranger and Colorado are much less expensive options, and both are an easy 22 MPG Highway. I am all about the MPGs now.

I can buy NOW if the right deal comes by, but I want to wait, and besides I have some home improvement stuff to do first, so should really not buy till about October. However, I can wait even 18 months from now if need to. I am patient because I have lived 4 months without a truck now and found out I can survive just fine without a 4x4 Truck/Vehicle, and these past 4 months was the peak of Snowboard Season in the best Snowboard year ever! and I still managed to survive just fine without a 4x4.

I get 24mpg fairly consistently at Hwy speeds. Most recent trip 400 miles to Reno,NV from Bend,OR and I got 24mpg both ways… same with a recent trip to Seattle similar mileage similar mpg in my stock 2020 DCLB OR.
The new motor in the gen4 should do better IMO especially the hybrid.

I run 265/75/16 AT’s, have a Gobi roof rack, and averaged ~80 on the highway to Arkansas recently. I got about 15.8 on my way up. I was careful and drafted a little on my way back and got 19.5 averaging about 75. This truck does not like high speeds. It ran great, it just runs through gas at Texas highway speeds.

Everyone has a different highway speed though. When I say highway I’m usually 65-76mph. I can get 22mpg if I do 55-60 but anything over 65 and it drops to 17-18.

GM twins are starting to hit lots and most are loaded Z71 and AT4’s. Price is steep at $46,000-50,000 but you’re getting a lot for that too. Will be interesting to see what 4G Tacomas come in with options and price.
