That's a lazy argument. Sid makes 9 mil and had 91 points. Geno makes 6mil and had 83 points. You've got guys like Seguin, Duchense, Johansson, Kopitar, Reinhart etc etc that all make more than Geno and are not close in points. Tavares makes almost double than him and had less points. So it's silly to act like the Pens are at a dead-end. Is it likely? I dunno, probably not. But that goes for any team. Why hasn't Toronto won a Cup, or Edmonton, or Vegas etc. All these teams that have been in their prime window. So you just never know. But the Pens core 3 did not hurt them . If anything, they did carry this team because the GM surrounded them with the wrong parts and mangled the goaltending yet again.

 

Of course other players make more and produce less. I'm not saying that they aren't good players. At least 2 of them will be in the HOF on the first vote. What I'm saying is the pens continue to rely on them the same way they did 10 years ago and it just ain't gonna happen that way again. I think signing three aging players at the same time is short sighted no matter who the team is.
Edmonton plays pick up style hockey, Toronto is the biggest playoff choke artist, and Vegas is only in their third season (I think) and has already made it to the finals once.

 

I hear you. I think at some point it will be exactly as you describe. But I guess that's why I am so bummed. We know that is coming, at some point. But this year we had all 3 healthy, all 3 had big production (especially considering what they are paid) and if the right buttons are pushed around them, that's a team capable of a run. The GM messed that up. And we might not get another year w those 3, where they are all healthy and productive. I guess we will see. I'd like to think they could make another playoff run or 2 before they are done. Might get lucky and even go deep.

 

I forgot to mention Poehilng as another young Pen was has potential. he looked real good in the 1st period.

I assume you meant Burke, in addition to Hextall. But if so, good. It needs to happen. At least Hextall. He did a few good things, I will give him that. but also too many mis-steps to key areas. Something has to change. And you can't let go of Sulli after extending him like they did. He was extended until '27.

 

Kind of crazy to think NJ was battling so close for the top spot. I don't think many people would've expected that, at the start of the year.

Good! And not sure. I have no idea who is floating around as an option. I wish we still had Billy G. We had him ready for that role and messed that up.

If the Leaves beat the Bolts in the first round and go up against the Bruins, it would be a tough call for me as to who to cheer against.

 

I'm torn, the leafs are fun to watch but I'm always curious to see how fast Dubas could get on a flight out of Toronto if they don't make it out of the first round.
