pssh... i laughed, picked it up went tiz but a scratch on the crash bars (that had already been crashed on) and called it good. Bikes IMO are a tool to have fun, yes there is pride in keeping them nice and functional but all the while using them as well - trailer queens are lame.

I ended up pulling the crash bars on the super ten when I got home, straightening (not bent from my tip over), re-welded the stock absolute shit weld on the givi crash bars, added in some cross members for strength, and fully painting them with the HIGHEST of quality rust oleum hammered black spray paint. TBH that hammered black makes stuff look so good!

I agree with this sentiment, but I still feel like it's a bummer to ding it up. It's like a new car; it's going to get dings and scratches, and I accept that while still trying to avoid it. If it weren't possible to cause damage that might make it unridable I would be tempted to do the whole "get the first crash out of the way" thing and tip it in the dealer parking lot. With my luck I'd break a mirror or lever and be SOL.

The biggest part is just accepting that you will drop it and being ok with it. You can’t avoid it but you can make some modifications to lessen the damage when you do. The dings and scrapes from drops are just the sign you actually ride your bike how it was built to be used.

That's the mindset I'm going for, especially because I want to ride a bit off pavement. I'm totally ok with a Mad Max patina so long as I don't break anything functional.

Stumbled across this in a yootoob and I think it pretty well settles any debates on oil, right?

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
If you’re going in the woods you can’t beat a nice pair of bark busters or similar.
I run Bark Busters, Acerbis, Cyrca on my bikes. The Cyrca gives you the most space around the brake lever, is my only note on difference. all of them can take beating and a drop. Haven’t driven a lever in a long long time running these.
I have saved my hand several times from clipping trees and boulders. like others have mentioned, they are stout and can be used to pick the bike up. From this stand point I think the Bark Busters are the best. They use an Aluminum bar that wraps around and is stout as fuck.

It’s like Sliders for your truck. Get um, use um when you need, save your vehicle and hands damage before it happens.

That looks like it's had the Rally Raid treatment. Just a tire swap is huge for changing the looks on the CB500X, but when it gets the full wheels and suspension upgrade it does more than just look the part.

What about Wilbers or Hagon for shocks? Friend of mine on the FJR forums bought a Hagon direct from the UK with remote preload adjuster for way less than Ohlins or Penske prices. Being honest the only reason I was able to go with a Penske for my FJR was finding a used one on eBay that they had seriously under priced for a "buy it now" at only $250.00 Snagged that and sent it right over to Penske for a refresh and a correct spring for my needs spending another roughly $300 leaving me with a fresh, correctly sprung rear shock for only half of what I would have paid for a new one.

Havent scoped either of those out but will now, appreciate it. Waiting to hear back from Penske as of yesterday. Just super bummed, we used to be an Öhlins dealer and everyone at the shop ran and raced em and I had my heart set. Just seeing in general that there doesnt seem to be a lot of stuff available for this bike. It is a weird assed one I guess so thats fair. Got some ASV levers coming today though so I’ll be able to reach the damned things with my carnie hands

Anyone thought of running those LED mirrors they put on SxSs on their ADV. I saw a couple smaller sized ones with a RAM ball on it….just got me thinking.
Has anyone seen bike mirrors with LED lights on the back?

Been there…one day I took my 1190r out to Highland Park. It was all fun and games until I flew off the trail and ended up in gully. That was an hour of finding my way back up the mtn.

Hes a little bruised, but ok now. Think hes sad that the bike will be totaled. Shop said 14,500 to fix, insurance will give him 15,985.

He's trying to figure out what to get next. 701 or a 450RL. He rides pretty hard in the woods, but also wants it to be street legal.
