They can also use a e-sim. Card and account required if you use 4G or 5G.

I was able to add reverse guide lines. I tried the carpro launch app but I ended up uninstalling and refunded only because I personally didn't care for it when i actually played with it. Ill just stick with the joying interface. I did add a custom background that im satisfied with.

Does anyone know how to add a boot logo?

Just cosmetic: Window Tint, radio knobs, temp control knobs, Tech-Deck, Tonneau bed cover, tail gate lock, de-chromed all badges inside and out, installed back up camera and custom bedside decals.
I'm kinda in the same boat...while I'm confident that I can install it, i just don't want to have to run extra wire or cables....I would love to have the factory back up camera work and all the steering wheel buttons work...I'd be a happy camper after that.

Confirmed, it's 100% plug n play. Easiest damn HU I've ever installed. The trade off, is that it does have a more complicated GUI than any other HU, but that's kinda why most of us are buying it anyways.

A SIM card is only required if you want to be able to use the HU as a stand alone unit with internet connection. Otherwise you connect your phone for internet connection. I preferred to have a SIM card and use the 4G antennas. Used it the HU for google maps and spotify and rarely connected my phone. I preferred the native Android HU apps over Carplay or AndroidAuto

Anyone knows how to add custom boot logos? I asked Joying and they sent a video but part of it is cut off. The options to make changes to anything are all over the place for these recievers. No big deal but it would've been easier to sub these options under settings - display, rather than enter the 4 digit code for additional options.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Does it retain the factory backup camera or will I have to buy theirs? I keep seeing mentions of it not working but then see people in this thread who got it working. not sure if that's extra work, or it simply works with plug and play?

I'd probably just run it through my phone then for ease of use. I assume the sim card that comes with our trucks for navigation/etc wouldn't suffice?

That all seems to depend on the year model and if you have JBL or not, I forget which is the dependent.

But mine did retain the factory backup cam as plug in play. Mine was a 2014 w/JBL. I think the 2012 and below with the backup cam in the mirror takes a little work

No, it needs to be your carrier's data-only sim card

Hm okay. Mines a 2014, so backup cam is in the headunit, but I don't have the JBL. I guess worst case it's only $23.

There on one of the android launcher apps. Not sure which one but if you search up "tacoma, joying" on youtube there are videos of people adding the boot up logo. It is not on the unit itself, but the option is added once you find the right launcher, I think Nova Launcher, Car Pro Launch and several others have the option of adding it. Some one else will surely chime in and let you know what app they're using.

Thanks. So far I'm impressed with the Joying. However it is a learning curve. The good thing is that there are options to customize screens with different apps.

So my setup has an aftermarket amp and RCA Cables so I can't speak for the version that has the OEM amp, but the rest of the harnesses were pretty much plug and play. The SIM Card is not required, only if you want the headunit to stay connected to the internet without your phone being a hotspot or running Android Auto / Apple Car Play. 90% of the time I just use Android Auto and the phone will use it's own connection and sometimes I want I want to have my custom dashboard I setup on the unit so I'll just turn on hotspot on my phone and the unit will connect to it automatically.

I'd say the harness makes it pretty painless - what might be more frustrating is routing the GPS antenna and new microphone cleanly. I ended up taking majority of the dash apart to get it cleanly installed.

Hm okay that's very good to know. I too have aftermarket amp, door speakers, etc.

mildly concerning regarding the GPS antenna and new microphone, i would have expected that you could reuse the stock microphone? maybe not. GPS antenna isn't really necessary if you're using android auto/carplay or hotspotting off your phone right? that'd just be for no-service uses?

I finally got the logo on. I figured it out. U gotta create a file, then save on the USB then upload.

2012 and below will require splicing the feed into the camera using a speaker wire and converting to a video plug, then power from the reverse camera fuse

If I am understanding correctly from the complete thread is that the newer Joying radios are plug and play and are able to connect to the OEM rear camera if it is a JBL system. I did read elsewhere that it works with non jbl system, but you need to buy the HU that is compatible with the JBL system. So damn confusing. Anyone with a non JBL system finally get this to work recently as a plug and play?

I reached out to Joying and asked them the question if the camera will work. They responded if I had a JBL amp as they needed to confirm which harness adapter was needed. I let them know that I not have the JBL system. According to their follow up response, if I do not have the JBL amp/original system, the camera will not be plug and play.

Interesting enough, in reading through comments on a youtube video, one comment said that he did not have the JBL OEM system, but ordered the JBL harness and the camera was plug and play. Anyone here do the same as ordering the JBL harness for non JBL setup? Thanks
