Curious which tune as well I have OTT and need some adjustments made as well it drives a lot better than stock but there’s more room for improvement I know they were trying to get one in hand and on the dyno

I asked and told it was the OTT tune, evidently there isn’t different versions just adjustments that can be made

Ok guys. We promised you guys some 2.7L Dyno Results. We're happy to be able to provide you this data and we're excited to have even more in the works for this platform which will significantly boost these numbers even on 87 Octane. We've got to revisit this at another time when we have some additional tools at our disposal to make it possible. But we were able able to explore within the calibration of the 2TR to see what the engine likes and responds too. Like many other modern Toyota platforms many areas of the calibration are rather well sorted for a stock-ish truck.

We were able to extract the following out of a 04C10 calibration in a low mileage truck using 87 Octane from a quality station.

The output above 5K RPM is run-run variance. We extensively tested VVTi, Ignition, etc. changes and were not able to extract additional output over the factory calibration, so any variance you see here is simple run-run variance and not related to the calibration.

For any of our current 3G 2.7L customers: please reach out to us or your local tuner to receive your updated tune. Update will be free of charge. We do anticipate another potential update to be released but more to come on that as we coordinate with VFTuner on our needs.

Yikes. So if I'm reading this graph correctly, the power output of the 2.7L is way below Toyota's claims.

You sure that wasn't a SOHC 1997 Honda Civic on the dyno?

This is at the wheel, not the flywheel where Toyota rates their engine output.

Add losses from the transmission, differential, and rolling resistance/friction of the tire to get back to "engine" figures. Typically 15% or so is considered acceptable for a modern Automatic vehicle.

That puts this truck at making 144.6hp and 164.4ft-lbs at the flywheel. Not too far off the rated 159hp and 180lb-ft on the 87 Octane fuel that was used during this test. Better quality fuel would certainly raise this threshold, but we knew 99.9% of you would be running 87 or less on the daily, so real world numbers for the masses was our priority here versus a nice number on premium fuel.

Awesome results as a 2.7 owner I could care less about peak power gains. It’s not a sports car power under the curve is what we are looking for forget peak. Looks like some real gains with a truck that doesn’t make a ton of power every bit helps. Im sure I speak for most 2.7 guys we are not looking for speed, we just want to increase drivability which this is a nice step in that direction. I have a LCE header I will post my thoughts in a few weeks when I get a chance to get the update. Already love my OTT tune on the truck would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend to me it’s a 100% must do on these trucks. I bumped up the throttle to spicy/extra spicy for ect. It is a lot better that the mild/medium I think the 4cyl needs the more aggressive pedal over the 6. Would it be possible to get extra spicy as the base ? The pedal feel with ect is great but for regular driving it obviously holds the gears too long. Would love to try that bumped up setting on the base and maybe a slight bump with ect. Excited to see what else you can do with it especially since the 4cyl is an afterthought appreciate getting us in the right direction.

Leaving this review here because I couldn’t really find much when i was researching a tune for my 4banger. I recently got the 2.7 auto tuned with kdmax. Before this tune i had a pedal commander. I believe there are 3 choices for the kdmax throttle response on the tune. Lite, normal, and sport. I tried sport but it was a bit too sensitive for my driving style so I ended up with normal and it’s perfect.

The tune changed the way the truck drives for the better. Things I noticed right off the bat were the obvious like better pedal response but merging onto the highway is insanely better. It accelerates smooth/linear keeps you in the power band the whole way through and just feels as if the truck has more power. Keeping up with the flow of traffic is alot more effortless as the pedal feels more responsive feels more natural than the pedal commander. Steepish inclines on the highway were a little rough on the stock tune but now it just feels like its always in the correct gear and you are always in the power band going up a hill. Cruise control holds much better now aswell. Better overall drivability. If it did add more hp and tq I wouldn’t know as theres no dyno numbers for the 2.7 kdmax yet. Its seems to have improved mpgs.

Now the pedal commander i had worked but it doesn’t compare to the tune. The tune actually fixed the shifting. The tune makes the truck much much more enjoyable to drive honestly.

Why am I the only one it seems that isn’t satisfied with this(OTT)tune. All the damn thing does up hills is constantly shifts between 4 and 5 or if I have it in Sport with ETC on its going between 3 and 4. I’m getting rid of the damn thing.

Those 2024 4-banger Tacos really put into perspective just how gutless the 2.7L really is, reliable as a brick shit house, but gutless.

I’d like more info on that 2.4L, iron or aluminum block.

And I can tell you that as little as 3 psi and tuning makes a difference on the 2TR

Honestly sounds like your expectations of a tune making on a 4000+lb brick in the wind with 160hp was a little high. The OTT tube made a huge difference on the truck but it’s still a slow turd. Me like most 2TRFE owners got it for reliability and understand it’s a dog. Are you stock? What about wheels and tires. The 2.7 struggles with big heavy tires and factory gearing.

Nice I have a similar experience with OTT tune. Overall pretty pleased with it, I am on their high throttle setting but feels like it could use a little more. I haven’t really tried cruise much after I didint think the tunes for the 2.7 had any change with cruise even with non radar I could be wrong. Too bad no one local to me had a kd tune would be curious to feel the difference. I’m know a lot of 3.5 guys make the switch from kd to OTT ans like it better. Definitely makes the truck drive a world better

Vftuner added a bunch of files a while back on the 2.7L list. Some are 2nd gens (manual and auto)
The best thing to do is get your ECU Id (at autozone or with an OBD reader) and check the list to see if it is supported.

Here is the list of ECU Id's for 2.7L supported by vftuner
