Calm down, this is a VERY common issue.

Do as recommended here, iron-x and a clay bar. This was likely on the truck the day you purchased it which is why the wax didn't prevent it.

If you want confirmation go hit the detailing forums. I don't visit them but once in a great while and I have seen half a dozen threads on this.

It's not a new development.... Some manufacturers use harder clear coat than others (the Germans especially) but there is also variation in clear coat hardness between different colors/finishes. For example a red car might have considerably "softer" paint than the same model with silver.

And just for the record... wax, sealant, ceramic coatings, etc.won't do anything to protect from chips.

Ok, well if the paint isn't chipped then it's something on the paint. Iron-X and clay will get it off.

Calm down? What makes you think I am not calm? I am just looking for a straight answer like you provided, thank you. However, like I have been saying. I have a 12 year old Black F150, and travel the same roads and it never had anything like what I am seeing here. Love the truck, just not happy with seeing rust on a new vehicle.

You know, it is strange that a black F150 with over 100K , driven on the same roads, same conditions never had this problem. I just cleaned and waxed this Taco and I can tell you, I know you cannot tell from the photos, but that is rust coming through the paint. there are no stone chips, I have mud flaps and those big flat running boards, so nothing is getting kicked up off the road. These spots are over the entire truck. I will let the dealership look at it. Been driving for 45 years in Northern Michigan and have never seen this on any of my vehicles.

Iron particles, happened to my wife’s Rav4. Took it to a detailer, they clay barred it and was perfect after.

Like you I Was very worried initially but detailer had seen it plenty of times, PNW.

Our rust spots in particular came from the car being transported from HI on a ship, iron particulates. Can also be caused from shipment on a train, being near someone that was grinding metal and wind blowing, also maybe picked it up off the road.

It will come off with no ill effects unless it’s weld splatter or metal particles straight from a grinding wheel; ie hot.

Take peoples advice with iron removing sprays, claybar etc

I will probably take it to a detailer, been wanting to get it ceramic coated.

I wish that was what I am seeing. The camera on my iPhone (mini) sucks. I can't get a decent image, but it is much worse that those specks, which look like they would polish right off. And I wish I lived in Hawaii. Not much salting the roads there in the winter eh?

    Yes, from that location.

It was delivered to Easton, MD.

All I’ve done is hand wash with Turtle Wax wash or McGuires.

Running fingers over these specks did nothing, finger nails worked to scrape it off but only with a very specific action. These specks were everywhere, once corrosion happens it really attaches to the lacquer. Clay bar then ceramic coat fixed it… $100

These iron particles blew on to the car so in your circumstance could have come from anywhere.

Let us know what your detailer thinks…

    Hawaii is surrounded by salt…

I spent a winter at Aberdeen Proving Ground back in the early eightys for MOS school, so I know you have some winter there. Do they salt the roads?
