2021 Tacoma Limited - Pioneer WC6600NEX - Maestro RR2

I'm in the process of installing a Pioneer DWM-WC6600NEX with a Maestro RR2. I'm using the T03 harness along with the PI01 harness.

I have mostly everything working as it should with the exception of the cameras.

With the car running if I shift into reverse the screen switches to the camera view but I have a black screen. I see my backup sensors.

The same goes for if I shift into drive the screen changes to the camera view but no video.

Even if I just press the camera button on the Head Unit I get a blank screen and no video.

What am I doing wrong?

How can I get the cameras to work?

I've read that sometimes, the maestro unit is not supplying the 6v needed for the camera. If your wiring is correct, reach out to customer support at maestro. They can give you a custom flash to flash the RR2 to fix the issue. I'm about to install my kenwood with RR this weekend and I hope I don't need the flash.

 

I’m not too familiar with Pioneer H/Us, but on my Kenwood, under the “A/V” tab in the menu, you need to turn those camera views on, otherwise just the “video in” is active.

 

Well got the cameras working last night. The one thing I didn't do is connect the rear camera RCA connections, from the T03 harness to the HU.. Once I did that I had cameras.

But, using the Camera View from the HU I don't get anything. Spoke with support and they told me that's normal. I can use the Camera View button on the dash but I only get side and front camera not the rear. Not sure why.

 

I'm wiring this up now and for the life of me I can't see an RCA input on the back of the Pioneer HU. Am I blind?

I don't see it in the manual either.



EDIT: I am blind: it's 7 in the picture via an adapter.

 

There should have been a wiring harness with a single black plug at the end and multiple RCA plugs on the other end, Front Speakers, Back Speakers, Sub, Rear Camera input and Second Camera input.

I believe that came with the HU.

 

Thanks. I had some connectors left over from the factory HU. Are these normal?

 

I believe I only had two factory connections left over. One small one and a black middle size one.

 

Maybe that explains why my 360 cameras aren't working... or sort of... Looking at the original wiring, 2 would make sense. The light blue one and the long thin black one both go to the nav unit. Not sure what they do or why we couldn't benefit from them on the Maestro/Pioneer but now I know what 3 of the 4 do (the light grey is USB) leaving me with one chunky black one that seems unaccounted for...

If I hit "camera view", it's just black. If hit reverse, the reverse camera comes up but it shows a 360 view to the side as well as the reverse. So the camera feeds are working. Hm.

 

Huh, I just re-read this bit. Interesting. Yeah, so my cameras are working if I hit the button or go into reverse but the camera view app is empty. Worse, I had the previous HU in "AUTO" mode to automatically flick to the front camera when under 8mph.. so it keeps opening the camera view app while I'm driving showing me nothing but a black screen. Super annoying.

 

That's interesting. Mine is acting as it did with the stock unit. The only bad thing about the new unit is the fact using the camera view on the HU I get a black screen and if I use the camera button on the dash I get the front then press it again I get the side cameras if I press it again I go back to my home screen. Never get the back camera.

I did call Maestro on it and they said that it is normal. Maybe call their support line and see if they say the same.
