I am relatively new to any form of mods for a vehicle (spefically Tacoma). I am planning on getting new rims and tires (hopefully as well as a short leveling kit). I am thinking about sticking to a 16 rim and then going for some more "aggresive" looking set of tires. I considered Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs but did not realize they are discontinued. Any advice on an offroad/aggresive looking tire that would still provide a fairly quiet ride and would not hurt gas milage by much? NOTE: I drive a 2017 SR5 Tacoma (currently with no level or lift) I do not want to shave or trim the body.

    EDIT:

    New
the more that i have looked, i am starting to grow on the 17s. (as long as i can keep from a fat tire and stay away from trimming) what would be a good size to look at to go on 17s if i absolutely do not want to do any trimming, and would like them to work on stock or leveled heights? --- also, thank you all so much for your input!

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
255/85r16 and some wheels that provide benefits(beadgrip/beadlocks) and not only looks.

welcome ....post a pic of that taliban tan before and after the upgrade .....but some good tire choices are wildpeaks, toyo, cooper, and easier to google "tire upgrade" and "tacomaworld" , then look at previous threads.....it will take you days

ps. i upgraded with 2019 oem pro wheels and using my original tires

Where did you hear Duratracs are discontinued? I see them for sale everywhere.

Toyo, and BFG seem to have the best selections for the 16" wheel. Most aggressive look, and less heavy than most brands which is most important. The Wildpeak 265/75 in the SL load seems like a nice sweet spot too. I've been doing wheel/tire research for cpl months now planning my upgrade in that dept. Even though it's more money, I realized the best route to truly have an "upgraded" mod is to move to a 17" wheel. For whatever reason, there are so many more tire options for a 17" wheel that keeps your rotational weight down.

    P.S....look at SCS Wheels

I was shopping Discount Tire just to see bc they have one across the street from where i work and i wanted to take a look after work. it says they are discountinued but still have other models of the Wrangler. it might just be discontinued at Discount. another place showed that they would not fit at stock ride height but ive heard otherwise. Like i
said, i am very new to any sort of mod even as simple as tire and rim upgrades.

That’s strange, I just picked up a set of 265’s at @Discount Tire a couple of weeks ago. He said they tons of them in stock at their warehouse when I got them. 803BBC62-B73A-48C8-B6E8-E09E6918A66D.jpg

I had 265/70/17's duratracs on my TRD OR with no lift.. only needed to trim about 1" of plastic from inside the front fender wells, and remove the front mud flaps (I removed rears as well as it just did'nt look right with the new wheel offset. in this pic I had installed my Dobinson 2.4" lift kit/ JBA UCA's

Here’s my rolling list in no particular order. I’m likely going to go with one of the lighter options to combat any rotational mass increase, wheels and lift will be going on at the same time as well in 2 months:
    • Cooper ST/MAXX
    • Nitto Ridge Grapplers
    • Toyo Open Country AT3
    • Falken WildPeak A/T3W
    • Goodyear Wrangler Ultraterrain AT
    • Cooper AT3 4S

Good list can’t go wrong with any of them I’m running an SL tire for weight plus don’t do real heavy off road so SL should be good based on research.

I’m in the same boat brother. Originally wanted those ST/Maxx’s then realized how heavy they were. Going SL’s as well.
