Had it been open I would have gone there. I've been there for various reasons in the past and it's pretty good. The problem is that they have limited hours on Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. So are amany others.

Ironically they are closed when Emergency Departments are at their busiest. Of course it's hard to find people who want to work on weekends. Having spent many years working weekends, I get that few enjoy doing it. Still, people who do agree to work weekends should do it properly.

My sister in law gave us a week at her time share in Hawaii. A week in Waikiki with no hotel charges. Okay. The problem being that we had to go in the summer because my wife was teaching at the time. A week in Hawaii in July. It was nice, but it wasn't like we were escaping the cold and snow.

Gotcha. I haven’t used any of the local urgent cares out here in the Springfield area but some of the stories I hear from my patients are down right bad. Also some of the stuff that gets sent in to us in the emergency department is just total BS. I do always try to remember I’m only getting half the story from the patient and understand other facilities either PCP offices or urgent cares don’t have all the capabilities the hospital has. Sad to know it sucks to be a patient in the healthcare system though.

Pretty stupid excuse, this isn't like you walked in looking like James Hetfield in 1992 I'm sure.

Overcrowding plus in general ER is a higher cost share versus a walk-in urgent clinic, which I thought was a wise thing of us as consumers to also save the system money.

2 decades plus in the field.

Tough call yes, I have been to Disney in the middle of June and was fine with it but I'm sure many others would say it's just too hot. Especially since the idea of going in part to that kind of a location is to get out of this ice planet.

I've long said that people who say teachers have it made not working all summer forget that there's always a flip side to that and what you speak of is a big one. Plus as my 4th grade teacher used to say "you have to do it once, I have to read 30 of them"

I’m at Disney now and it’s too hot! High of 80 today, should be tolerable. First day in the park, just got here yesterday. 20 hour drive dragging the camper, absolutely love the diesel Stupid Duty for that kind of trip. Set the cruise control and go, no white knuckling at all.

Panel is all wired and turning it on was uneventful. Now to wire some circuits

As it too often the case, a system intended to solve a problem, just makes the problem worse. In this case, the fix would be better communications. Of course that would require an interest in fixing the issue. As you know, EDs are crowded on weekends because private practices and clinics are closed. Few have weekend on call staff. Hell, my oil company can muster a crew if I call and leave a message.

I've believed for years that in order to get optimal health care you either need a medical back ground or someone in your family who does. I think the ED let me go without a blood draw and at least a starter dose of IV ABX was because I spoke the lingo.

Without telling too much, I can say I read enough EMS reports of calls to UC centers to say that care there is sub optimal. Pt presents to UC with chest pain, UC examines patient decides it is ACS, puts patient back in waiting area, calls 9-1-1. No ASA, let alone IV and NTG. MIGHT get a 12 Lead.

They seem to operate more as profit centers than, clinical facilities.

In my case the reaction of the ED staff confirmed my opinion.

If you're anywhere near Seekonk, the urgent care out next to the Walmart (that might be the most American thing every said) is pretty good - I wasn't urgent though, I scheduled "scheduled" (it just puts you on the wait list, but I was in during working hours so not a big deal) an xray there and it went good, was like 150$. Wait was maybe 15-20 minutes? Watched some youtube and then got zappy zapped.

Re: Caribbean in the summer, do it. The weather is the same, MAYBE 5-10 degrees hotter but when you're already at 85 and at the beach, who cares about 95. Cheaper, less people, it's fantastic.

AND. If you go to St. Martin on the french side for Bastille Day it's a PARTY.

Thanks for the info, but no where near Seekonk.

Yeah both my parents have needed to use the ED for visits in the last year (mom anaphylaxis to antibiotics and dad with risk factors and sudden sharp chest pain in a guy who otherwise NEVER complains). It was seemless for them but it helps to call ahead to charge and have them waiting. Now hopefully those are two scenarios that would be taken care of quickly. It's just convenience for them haha. Years ago before going back to school I was a scribe at an urgent care that was great but they struggled to make money even though they stayed busy and ultimately closed up shop years later.

It helped back when I knew enough nursing staff and attending physicians at various Boston hospitals where I or family members ended up in the ED. Being on a first name basis with an attending level EM physician or charge nurse sped things right along.

It's a shame that it has to be that way, but a person would be a fool not to use that leverage if it was available.

My in-laws have a beach house with private beach access. It's a bad day if someone sits in my field of vision in front of me if I'm sitting at the sea wall during low tide. We've gone before in June and it's absolutely nice but it hits way better when it's crummy weather at home.

Side note I did the plugs in my truck. I nearly gave up after the first plug doing the driver side first, but it was all down hill from there. The hardest part is getting the coil plug connectors and figuring out what needs to be moved / loosened for access. Oh, and not dropping your plug socket into the engine bay.

heh, that must be nice - yeah down there in the summer there's more cruise ships and less jetsetters in the summer, but it's basically the same. Actually the days are shorter - you're used to 8:30 sundown but it's like 6:30-7 ish down there.

We honeymooned down there in July, and we go there with her family regularly in the winters. Winters are great, but if the summer is all you got, it's worth it.

Don't remind me - that's on my list  - among a bunch of other things, but that one I'm not looking forward to.
