If you don't think this was engineered to be for off road I can't help you. Dismal fuel economy from the off road drivetrain, compromised comfort to support better clearance, etc. There are SO many compromises to this design that directly benefits off road usage and that wasn't done by the marketing team

It is not about having low torque. The issue is the engine feels like it is misfiring, jerks around and you get split seconds of no power and then power is back. It feels exactly as a carburated engine with the jets for mid power clogged.

I don't mind the low torque as long as the engine is smooth, like every single other manual car I have driven in my life

If you are referring to power surging in low speed, low gear, low rpm, and high throttle situations, I have found it very common with 4-stroke automobile engines. You can avoid it with practice.

Again, this is neither low rpm nor high throttle.

Yes, we ALL know what lugging an engine is, this is not that

Since you have a Tactrix, log the parameter @Vlady was talking about here. You will likely need techstream if it's not available in vF. The parameter is "Injection Mode" and will tell you if it's PI, DI, or both based on the value.

Is not. I know what I am talking about, and I have driven many manual cars, carbureted, port injected, direct injected, 4 cyl, 6inline, v6 and v8, from 1990 models to 2022.

What the Tacoma is exhibiting is not normal. At least compared to any other car out there

For comparison my family in Venezuela have 2 chinese cars, both manual transmission. Those cars have zero torque in low rpm, however the engine in both of those cars is smooth as butter all through the rpm range and never misses a beat. There are many examples like that.

I am sure what I am experiencing with the Tacoma is not normal, and others are feeling it too. Maybe you don't understand it because you are not experiencing it, but I am 100% sure is not normal.

Also every now and then the Tacoma just transforms on what it should have been from the factory. Low torque but a very smooth engine. Then it gets possesed again and goes into this weird mode for many miles until it comes back from the upside-down.

Like I've mentioned before....some of you guys got some weird running tacoma's. Glad I don't have those complaints with mine.

    Same here

In the last four decades I have owned almost 20 different cars (first was a 1978 K20 400 SBC) and half a dozen bikes and toys, driven over a dozen cars and toys that were not mine. Wrenched on almost all of them and that includes carb tuning and computer tuning. This is the first vehicle I have had that runs like this.

I don't touch ignition, fueling, or valve timing in my personal edits. I rely on others, like YotaWerx, for that.

I've never driven a manual that had that unsteady of a power delivery above 900-1000rpm. Even my old '97 1.6L four banger pulled more consistently down low.

I shift at 2-2.5k RPM range normal
Driving. Cruise at 1300-1500 RPMs no problems at all. Stock or tuned.

    Always used 91E0 or higher.

The problem that some of us are experiencing, is that even in that rev-range with mid-throttle the truck still does like it feels as a misfire. I know it sounds like it doesn't make sense, but some of us are experiencing this, and the ones that are experiencing it describe it the same.

The computer does not detect any misfire but it is definitely noticeable, specially when the truck all of the sudden starts to behave completely normal and it feels amazing for a while.

Do you have an ODB scanner that can force port-injection only? When I do that on my truck it runs amazingly smooth. If I force to direct injection only, it runs like crap again (randomly).

If you can repeat the experiment at least we'll get some consistency that the problem is related to DI
