All that aggravation and they didn't fix the intended issue, that sucks.

OP, your 09 likely had a leaf spring recall that could explain the clatter. Has your’s been replaced?

Yeah. I'm fine with replacing what actually needs to be replaced but now their diagnosis comes into question in my mind and I'm wondering if the bearing was actually fine but it was the drum brakes the whole time.

The leafs were replaced in 2018 or 19 on the recall. One of them was fully snapped if I remember correctly. I'll get under there and look but I didn't see anything wrong with them recently.

While down there check the torque on the bolts to ensure none are loose. Including the u-bolt nuts.

So half the parts cost were included in the $397?
If so, you got a deal.

Ok, I will. What about the constant velocity clicking though? The leafs could explain the clank but I can actually feel something in the pedal when the clank happens. That's why I'm inclined to think it's the drums and hardware as the previous poster mentioned.

Yes. I also was out of a car and had to rent one. But I agree, they ended up treating me fairly. They still misdiagnosed the problem though. If the wheel bearing actually needed fixing, I will never know. I learned how to work on cars on youtube and this forum so I'm no expert. Thats for sure.

What do you mean by constant velocity clicking?

That's cheap. But then again... it didn't solve the problem, right? Did you look at what was left of the old bearing? Do you know enough to see if it was time to change it?
It's a can of worms at this point.

What I mean is that the clicking is only heard when it's under 30 mph and the wheels are spinning. As soon as I press the breaks, the clicking stops.

Same thing when you’re on the gas or coasting?

I agree. Can of worms. I didn't look at the bearing. I'll take the guy at his word. I also wanted to leave the place. It was an awkward experience.

I can only hear it when coasting. When I hit the gas it's too noisy. I have a smaller muffler than spec so my truck is loud. It's best heard in a parking lot where there is a lot of reverberation of noise.

What about driving in reverse? I’m asking because coast and reverse has the contact patch on the other side of the gears in your differential. The noise might be coming from there too

Constant clanking, I would check u-joints and center bearing. Then, motor/tran mounts, and bushings and ball joints.

The clanking which is not that loud but loud enough for me to hear it only happens when hitting the breaks.

If the noise is related to when the brakes are applied I'd start there. Are the shoes way out of adjustment? How's the parking brake? If the shoes have a bunch of wiggle room due to poor adjustment or faulty hardware they will shimmy around and make noise

I'll try it in reverse. So far I haven't heard it in reverse.

A different mechanic did a ride along with me and thought it was probably the drum brakes. I should have listened to him it seems.

Won’t hurt. But I missed the part where you wrote that it stops as soon as you hit the brakes, so I would start by looking at the brakes first like bro said
