I wonder if there’s going to be an easy retrofit path to the 3rd Gen.

I mean not to be Debbie downer but you gonna be paying a lot more for those first allocations on top of what will likely be a good deal of a price increase. I’m gonna wait it out a bit.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
On the fox pictures you can see that they were driving through water and mud. Cheers!

This is pretty much all spot on.

The only thing I'd question would be the change from the 120 to 150 basis. The N280 4Runner and J150 Prado/GX updated a number of things on the platform, and those were applied to the XJ10 FJ Cruiser at the same time in 2009, but I am not aware of any similar changes to the Tacoma until the 2016 update.

Toyota was building the Tacoma at NUMMI and TMMBC at the same time. After NUMMI shut down in 2009, they continued building them at TMMBC until the line at TMMTX came online in 2010.

There were no structural or frame changes that I can see made during that time. The same part number for the frame is used from 2008 through 2011 for trucks made at NUMMI, TMMBC, and TMMTX.

The easiest change to spot between the 120 and 150 is the size of the inboard mounting bolts on the front LCAs from M14 to M16. The Tacoma made that change for MY16.

Can't be that much more. A bare bones and brand new Gen3 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Offroad Trim, MSRPs for about $40k as I write this. I am thinking the same model and trim with Hybrid will be only about $10k more, maybe $15k. Even if it is $15k more, I am still in. My trucks only get about 4k miles a year, so my Gen4 Tacoma should last me easily 20 years.

It is worse than you think, even if Toyota shares with us all the details in June, most likely the first models will NOT be in private buyers hands until about November at the earliest, maybe even March! So I might have to wait a long time, and live without a truck for along time :-(

To get that first allocation I’m betting you pay adm on top of that. When the 3rd Gen tundras finally landed to dealers it was very limited and if you could secure an allocation it was with an ADM. $55k for a bare bones TRD OR and to be the Guinea pig. Not to mention the hybrid came months after the non hybrid. You’ll be waiting longer than 7 months from now.

That's why Toyota thinks off-roading is inherently dangerous.

I think the Tundra sway bar design at least lends itself to an easy disconnect - just remove one of the links like on 1st gens.

Yes, and the extra-beefy cab mount was introduced for MY16. I'm not sure if the 4Runner even got it to this day.

Did the 2nd gen rust campaign replacement frames get the bigger LCA bolts and bigger cab mount?

You do you but if that was the concern, there are 3,809 Tacomas listed on Auto trader for 40K and under, with 60K and under mileage....So if you did want one, they are there.

    Edit ( 3,809 Tacomas with 4wd...cause who wants a 2wd anyway)

    A. There's no way the engineers took backward compatibility into account.
    B. It wouldn't be worth it, not even close.

No, they didn’t update things with the recall frames.

You are probably correct. I should count on probably March 2024 at the earliest.
