It's also a good idea to experiment with plugging a tire before the actual need arises. Next time you're due for a new tire or tires and assuming you're not planning on riding the bike to the shop, put a hole in one of your tires and try plugging it. Rear tire is the easiest to mess with, just drill a hole in the center of it. Nothing huge, just comparable to a small sheet metal screw or nail. Now using only those tools you plan on carrying attempt to plug the hole and reinflate the tire. Doing this at home means you don't have the pressure of being alongside a dark road at night or in the rain. Take your time, think about the steps required and then plug the tire. Worst case scenario here is you remove the rear wheel and tire and take them to the shop to get your new tire put on. Best case you reinflate the tire and take a short ride to gain confidence in your abilities knowing you can do this if you really have to.

I was somewhat fortunate in that the first time I needed to plug one of my tires it actually occurred at home. I must have picked up a small screw in my rear tire and noticed it one morning before I was leaving for work. I just grabbed my truck keys and left the bike sit until later. Hole was out of round and it took 2 plugs to get it to hold air. That fix not only held air I used that tire the rest of the way to the wear bars, about 6k more miles.

Definitely not a bad idea. I've used those sorts of rope plugs a bunch when I was younger, dad's ATV always got punctures with our shenanigans. Been a long time since I've done it though, so some practice could certainly help.

Any rec's on a compact inflator? I saw someone posted one earlier, can't hurt to have more though.

Not sure if you were referring to the Stop and Go that I linked, but here it is under my seat:

Going back a few days to the dead red/non responsive red light conversation. I was in a narcan training and one of the campus cop buddies was one of the presenters and I quizzed him his thoughts on it.

He said that if he saw someone running a red, but didn't see how long they were there for, he'd probably pull them over, but "as soon as they said hey, I've been waiting five minutes, or whatever length of time and let me know it's non responsive, they'd be fine to go as long as I don't smell alcohol or weed or anything."

Just another viewpoint for that discussion, ymmv.

Most of the LEO around here don't like motos and tend not to give us any benefit of doubt. Even a moto-officer the wife asked "What would you do if you were stuck at a non-responsive light?" His reply, "I would turn my lights on and go through the red." She said, "Well, that's you. What about a regular motorcycle?" He replied that he would pull someone over if he saw them running a red.

I ended up riding 65 miles round trip to buy two old milk crates. The funny thing is I work at a grocery store and have access to hundreds of the things. :D

People actually PAY for milk crates? I think mine were "acquired" at some point in time during a misspent period in my youth. (Statute of limitations should be expired by now)

No pics but mine is a Motopump, made a sold by a guy over at ADVRider.com.

    https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/...ollow-our-progress-here-now-shipping.1488363/

Link is the newest version, mine is a previous generation. When I bought mine he was offering a package deal that included the Dynaplug tire plug tool and extra plugs. Really nice thing its that it all fits in one neat zippered pouch. Came with a couple different power cords and adapters. Enough extra room in pouch that I added a tire gauge and some zip ties for other emergency repairs. He's well known over there and really stands behind his products which you'll see if you read through that linked thread.

I didn't want to get in trouble over a milk crate at the store I work at, and felt like taking an adventure anyways.

So I contacted my local dealer about the XR150L. It has a MSRP of $2971 with $300 freight/destination. They told me it'd be $4500 OTD.........I'll wait until they start hitting the used market.
