AFE, TRD and SandB use the same CAI port as stock, only with a more direct line for the air to travel. I’ve never understood the brands that suck air out of the engine bay, like the one OP has.

people get too hung up on restriction and temperature. intake resonance and air velocity into the throttle body is very important. fluid dynamics is a true art. this is why im a strong believer that a properly designed aftermarket intake will absolutely gain hp. the 10 or so hp claims ive seen on some are well within reason. that being said 10hp is such a small increase that it probably wont be felt.

regardless of hp i went with an s&b intake simply for the sound and it looks great. i can see that the intake tube had alot of thought put into it unlike some kits that just use a standard round tube.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Stick a “400hp” badge on the truck and be done with it, or buy a fast car. Its a low powered truck, and 5-10 extra hp will be of no benefit.

I believe you on noise. I don't believe you on acceleration. Placebo.

That’s a hot air intake. Return it if you can. I’ve used those on previous vehicles and had a bad experience. Got worse mileage. If it’s an oil filter it can gum up the MAF sensor. There’s no benefit to them.

If you’re looking for something flashy these HPS intake tubes come in blue and red. I bought the black one. It eliminates the resonator on the factory intake tube. HPS claims there’s an increase in horsepower. What I’ve noticed is reduced pedal lag, quicker acceleration and improved mileage. I have it paired with an OTT9 tune. It sounds pretty awesome when you hit over 4,000 rpm too. Plus the MAF sensor is not relocated. It doesn’t mess with the air to fuel ratio that alot of these other aftermarket intakes do (moved the MAF closer to the intake).

sigh...stop sucking in heated air from the engine bay! just stop already! Your OEM intake tract/system is ALREADY a CAI. if you want the noise and reliabity then buy a TRD cai that is designed for your Tacoma!

And your introducing more contaminants into your engine because these filters aren’t manufactured to maximize particulate filtering.

It's easy to manufacture a filter that maximizes filtering...just use a steel plate. There's always a give/take relationship when it comes to filtering/airflow. Saying that all aftermarket filters increase contaminants because they don't maximize filtering is misleading at best. Unless you've actually studied the data or performed tests, this is a pretty big claim. Remember that a filter can *increase* airflow (ie. not lie on their claims) by filtering just as effectively with a slightly larger surface area as well.

You may have introduced dust peachfuzz or pollen on the MAF sensor wire during install. Clean the MAF sensor with compressed air and a MAF cleaner spray.

Make sure the MAF sensor seal to the intake tube is seated correctly and isn't cut.

Make sure a coupler isn't blocking a vent hose or pressure reference line internally (happened with the TRD v2 intake for 2nd gens).

    Take off the prefilter sock.

Unhook the battery negative terminal for 30 sec and hook it back up again to reset the ECM learned values.

I’m not claiming that it’s added massive hp or any for that fact as I have not dyno’d anything before and or after. I’m just sayin it has a better response and pick up when getting on the freeway.

You miss the point. Do you have evidence of your claim that all aftermarket CAI's increase damage to the engine because "these filters aren't designed to maximize particulate filtering" ... or are you just making that up? I'm willing to accept your statement for what it's worth if you can provide the data. Just remember that it was a blanket statement directed at basically all aftermarket filters...

They're cheap. Usually these hot air intakes are $200 or less so the bolt on budgets buyers go for them.
What OP really needs is a throttle body spacer. Fixes mpg issues, uneven tire ware, and male pattern baldness.

Seeing a fine layer of dust in my intake tube was enough for me to never, ever use “performance”/oiled filters.

Stock paper from now for me.
