    Hi gang,

Got a question regarding SR5 trim. My SR did not have the wiring in place for trailer lights. I just ordered an SR5 with the 2.7L engine, which is kind of an oddball configuration. Seems to essentially be a SR5 equipped SR. The question is, would it have the wiring in place for the trailer lights?

The way I understand it is the tow package provisions (i.e. wiring, hitch, etc.) are based on the engine, not model/trim. So the 3.5 V6s will have them, while the 2.7 I4s won't. Hopefully someone can back me up here.

I think you might be right about the latest years. Last I looked, the tow package was not listed as an option on any of trim levels I looked at. My conclusion was that the tow package is now standard equipment for the v6 and a non-option for the i4 or it is standard equipment on all

Last I knew the sr5 comes with the entire tow package.

Thanks guys....My assumption was that it was only the V-6 version that included the tow package (or just the wiring for that matter)...As I said, the SR5 with the 2.7L is an odd-ball configuration. Far as I can tell, I just bought the only one that was in the system in the entire country!

Your dealer or @Jeff Lange would have a more authoritative answer.

It requires the mating connector and cabling routed to the rear bumper.

Hopefully your truck will have some guts if towing. The 2020 sr 4 cyl. auto I test drove could barely get out of its own way going up a hill. I would definitely not want to be towing anything much over 1k lbs. with it.

Yeah, I'm well aware of the performance situation with the 2.7L. My SR would drop a gear or two going up small hills with cruise control on. :D I just love that engine, particularly since it's still built in Japan, and it accommodates my driving needs perfectly. I also like the look of the truck without the over-fenders (flares), and there are not many trims without them. The only thing I'd tow would be a small utility trailer for Home Depot runs.

I had to go play with the online configurations. I'll be damned, an SR5 really can come with a 2.7, albeit with no tech options. Just painted fenders and alloy wheels. Still, I did not know that.

I didn't either. I absolutely wanted the 2.7L, but kind of wanted some of the SR5 upgrades because my '17 SR was pretty bare bones. I even had to add cruise and intermittent wipers after I bought it. I had resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to buy another SR until I went through the configurator. There's an SR5 appearance package that you can add to the 2.7L and get the color-keyed over-fenders and black alloy wheels, but I didn't want either, so I got the base SR5 2.7.

Idk, if it's an option or not for the sr5, but my sr5 came with the color matching fender flares. Imo, they do make the truck look more finished.
As far as those home cheapo trailers, you won't have any issue. I tow my 5'x10' utility trailer to our landfill every couple weeks with garbage, you don't even know its there except for the noise when hitting a bump.

As I understand it, the SR5 V-6 automatically comes with the over-fenders (flares). If you get the SR5 with the 2.7L, you have to get the "SR5 Appearance Package" to get the over-fenders, otherwise it comes "flareless" like the SR.

That may have changed. I saw all the sr5's here back in 2020 whether 4 cyl, or 6, all had the fender flares. They, along with the mud flaps tend to save the rest of the exterior on the truck from paint chips.

Just ordered a truck now? Did the dealer give an expected delivery date? I ask because, you know, https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/4th-gen-tacomas-2024.292/

Interesting that you mention this. The picture of the truck on the sell sheet shows it with the SR body. If you do an SR5 2.7L build on Toyota's website, there's an "SR5 Appearance Package (4 Cyl)" that you must add to get alloy wheels and flares (Toyota calls them "color keyed overfenders"). I'm assuming that if you don't add that package, you end up with steel wheels and no flares. The description of the truck I ordered said it has steel wheels.

What's throwing a curve at the situation is that my invoice has the addition of splash guards, and I asked if they were OEM, and the dealer said yes. Toyota doesn't make splash guards for a non-flared Tacoma, so it makes me wonder if the truck I bought may actually have the flares. The sell sheets does say "SR5 Package," but there's no cost associated, so I'm assuming that's just the basic SR5 stuff (fog lights, silver interior trim, chrome rear bumper, chrome trim on grill, leather steering wheel and larger entertainment screen). Guess I'll find out when it arrives.

I ordered a '23. I didn't have time to wait for a '24, and wasn't sure about buying a first year redesign. Plus, I was worried about about a price increase.

Sounds confusing to me also. I know when I ordered my 2020, I told the dealer everything I wanted extra the truck to come with, but was told I can't cherry pick, I have to take these tech packages as they called them. I ended with some stuff I didn't need like all the nanny bs, auto headlights, and all this radio crap I never listen to. I do often use the fog lights which even my old sr5 tundra had. Even the door sill protectors, floor mats, and tonneau cover have been holding up great. Toyota didn't offer the power sliding rear window on an access cab at the time so that was another thing I had to haggle on to get it.
