@Jeff Lange Wow, so the little 2nd gen frame change rumor being passed around might be false?

Interesting, a number of folks had noted over the years, that around 2011, Toyota switched the 2nd gen Tacoma frame to the 150-Series basis echoing the 2010 FJ Cruiser. I thought it was the 2016 Gen 3 that got those changes, but I heard it was Gen 2 around 2011, which is confusing since in September 2011, the 2012 2.5 Tacomas went on sale. While MY 2011 was the new single bar grille, now built at TMMTX in addition to TMMBC in Mexico.

I am sorry if I got any of that wrong, if the part numbers are the same. The little responsibility I had on the 2012 truck during an internship, I never was aware of any frame changes until years later.

Pre 2011 trucks were more prone to rust, while somehow the 2011+ more immune to it. Thanks for the info as always, I appreciate it.

My apologies if I am derailing discussion. That's a really mediocre rendering that I keep seeing passed around and quite unfortunate in my opinion, due to proportions not being right compared to others out there.

Especially when they've had the BEV concept as a great reference point and the patent leaks too. Needs a bit more tinkering to be even close to right.

    20211214-bev-22-1639491053.jpgtoyota-tacoma-design-patent-collage.jpg

What I did notice though, is also this. On one of Toyota USA's social media accounts today for the latest teaser, this exact rendering was posted in response and then swiftly deleted by Toyota USA...

    https___www.carscoops.com_wp-content_uploads_2023_02_2024-Toyota-Tacoma-Rendering-3-1024x677.jpg

Now that's the damn 2024 Tacoma alright! Clearly Toyota USA isn't really feeling it, when anyone is too on the money at guessing it 100%! These Tacoma 4G renderings were very well done, unlike the other one above.

    https___www.carscoops.com_wp-content_uploads_2023_02_2024-Toyota-Tacoma-Rendering-2-1024x677.jpg https___www.carscoops.com_wp-content_uploads_2023_02_2024-Toyota-Tacoma-Rendering-6-1024x677.jpg

Anyway, sounds like mid-late May reveal is a very strong possibility for the HQ event, even though one person also said late June. Even heard some random lady in NY, claim Cinco de Mayo. We'll see I guess. SMH.

I think a lot of people need to be posting a bunch of those Tacoma4G renderings to piss off Toyota, as much as possible LOL. If they want to drag it out, let everyone bombard them with images they keep deleting.

Absolutely different, thank goodness. Do not like the sheet metal recess on the Tundra. Unnecessary design element.

If the renderings hold out, like the Patent leak and EV Tacoma shown, I love how Toyota still refuses to develop a body line that flows smoothly from the cab to the bedside on the SB. It's like 2 different committees designed the front and rear of the truck and never shared their work.

The crappy rendering has it though lol.

Edited my earlier post. The prototype was tested with no visible sway bar:

It's interesting the LCA has no provision at all for a sway bar link in the front. (The hole next to the shock mount is way too small.)

Could be on the rear of the LCA like the 1st Gens.

Think the Trail Hunter will come with 35s like the Colorado Bison?

You're right, the pic on Fox's IG with gamma cranked up shows the sway bar link in the rear:

Of the 5 sizes currently offered, the prototype seems to have 275/70R18 or 33s.

I wonder if that’ll make it easier for someone to make a quick disconnect for the sway bar.

^I think it will be as easy as it was on 1st gens.

On the other hand, the tie rod location might prevent fitting fatter coilovers :stirthepot:

Darn so its wheels confirmed. I was hoping for tank tracks. Wonder if it will have an engine or pedals like a bike.

The Hyundai 2.5T really does get things moving nicely. My wife has a 22 Santa fe with the 2.5t and it's an appropriate amount of power for it honestly. Even the dual clutch in it is good.

The reality is, always get the 'big' engine. I really hope the hybrid powertrain is worth it in the 4th gen. Toyota has to be careful to not sacrifice reliability. If I love the new Taco, I will probably wait a couple years to get the kinks out. At least the 3.5 was already in use when the 3rd gen came out. This is going to be very interesting to see some torture testing on actual HARD trails and not courses set up.

The Santa Fe (piece of shit) get's 19MPG. I was pretty shocked when I saw that at the auto show.

There seems to be a common theme here that any vehicle other than a Tacoma is a piece of shit.

Not exactly. The Frontier, Colorado/Canyon, and Ranger are legit body on frame trucks. They each have plus and minus virtues versus our Tacoma. However, the Sante Cruz and Ridgeline are unibody cars that vaguely resemble trucks, and warrant the POS label when compared to a Tacoma.

At least the unibodies don’t have a frame to rust out. :D
    Also Santa Fe = SUV
Santa Cruz = Mini El Camino.
