When the bolts holding the rack legs to the voodoo rails are undone, do you lift the rack up, or do you have to slide it backwards because of the upper lip on the voodoo rails?

The easiest way to release the legs from the Voodoo Rail would be loosen the bolts that attach the crossbars, just enough to push the legs inward a bit, then you can lift the leg/crossbar assembly away.

So take out the 12 bolts on each side and then push these legs in and lift? I love the look and options on this rack but that method of removal isn't going to work for me.

I do see cutouts in the rails though. Any chance the legs slide up through those?

The rack wasn't designed for easy crossbar removal, it was designed for superior strength, so it might not be the best fit for you.

Both the legs and the Voodoo Rail have notches, and they "interlock" with each other, so the legs won't slide straight up.

But then again, with an electric ratchet, I can have one of these puppies completely disassembled in about 10 minutes, but I've done a lot of wrenching on these racks :) At this point I'm like a NASCAR pit crew. lol

No worries at all. Definitely a good looking product though.

If you want me to do some tinkering, feel free to send one out, haha.

@KB Voodoo Im trying to pick out a rack from this page (https://www.kbvoodoo.com/vrs-crossb...d-crossbar-2005-to-present-toyota-tacoma-long) But I dont need any cross bars, just the side rails. I am going to be building a custom cross bar system that will hold my mini bass boat, so the supplied 1 rail will just end up in the trash can.

Is it possible for me to order just the side parts with no cross bar for slightly cheaper?

This is the boat I will be making the custom racking for, the design will have a slide out in the back to support the rear, a headache rack in the front to keep it from going to far, and 10 foot (folding) wheel ramps that attach to the rack to allow me to pull the boat up. The boat is 8f, so the extension in the rear will only be about 2f long. But the one part I can not make myself is the mounting rails for the truck.

*boat not all the way pushed into the bed*

For anyone wondering why I want to put the bed on a rack and not just in the bed, With the boat in the bed, I have zero storage for other things to bring with me. So if me and the family go up to the cabin, I can either bring the boat, or I can bring our clothes, just not both. But with the rack, the bed will be open for all our stuff and the boat will just sit up top. I dont have space for a trailer either.

Btw I used to have a similar boat. I used to bomb all over western NY every summer, slaying bass in that thing.

Just got it this year, hoping It makes chasing musky easier than my kayak is. I got a 4hp evinrude for it and a trolling motor up front. Transporting it and still having bed space for gear and stuff for the rest of the family is a bit harder though.

You definitely live in the right state for chasing musky.

We played around with the 22" VRS on our JT this weekend. We also installed our CVT Mt Hood.

    Hi All,

I am running the 18" VRS Aluminum Rack with Bakflip X4S Tonneau. This is just a quick review before I post a separate in depth review of this product. First of all, shout out to Chad for the best customer service throughout this process. He answered all my questions and provided quick responses during the installation process. The assembly of this rack was rather simple. Just simple hand tools. As mentioned above, I am running the Bakflip X4S and had to do some slight modification to the bakflip brackets. A 30 min dremel job and the tonneau was mounted to the bed rack. For what it is, this rack system is the best one out there. Great value and the modularity of this system allows for the crossbars to be removed when you need to use the truck as a truck.

We finally got the 22" VRS mounted on our Tacoma, along with the CVT Mt. Hood tent and Midnight Forest 8 gallon Rain Basin.

These pics show how the VRS mounts to a tonneau cover with built in T-tracks, like the RetraxONE XR.

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
What’s the lowest height option that still allows me to see out the rear view mirror?

Our 12" height would be best for you.

When designing the VRS, we considered a 10" height, but decided on 12" for the following reasons:

    - Visibility out the rear view mirror is poor with a 10" rack, it's actually pretty good with the 12" rack.
    - Customers who purchased 10" racks from us often ask if they can upgrade to our 14" legs because the 10" is too low. We feel that 12" is a good "tweener" height.

For customers with height restrictions, usually due to low garage doors, we still offer a 10" rack in our Max Modular product line.

I recently received the 18" in aluminum and decided to install the rails today. I'm running the Truxedo Pro x15 tonneau.

I had to make two small modifications.

The first modification was to file the vertical holes in the tonneau rail brackets so that the voodoo bolts fit:

The second modification was to drill new holes in the tonneau side rails:

Otherwise the installation was smooth. Although I received only four bolts instead of six, but I just reused two tonneau bolts.

The cover clears the rails well:

There is a gap towards the end that I need to figure out how to seal:

So far so good, great product, KB!
