P0420/430 95% of the time is a bad converter if no exhaust leaks are present, O2 sensor function should be verified as well.

The catalyst temperatures in scan data are prety useless as they are inferred values based on a lookup table, there are no actual temp sensors in the exhaust. The inferred temperatures are used by the PCM for catalyst overtemperature protection.

This is an example of what the PCM is looking for to determine if the converter is working properly, essentially it wants to see the downstream O2 sensor voltage stay steady at around 600-800mv. If the downstream sensor is fluctuating alot during a hot idle and steady cruise odds are the converter is bad and P0420/430 will set.

Look for exhaust leaks. Buy an OEM converter if you can afford it

When you say converter, what exactly are you referencing? Forgive my ignorance. I have this code and i am unfamiliar with a "converter". Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you mean catalytic converter, but wanted to be sure.

That’s what he was referring to.
The one that’s attached to the the exhaust manifold.

Yep. It converts HC and CO into CO2. the term catalyst means "something that induces a chemical/molecular reaction without being consumed (burned) in the process"
