Original in service date of the truck. Meaning when new.

Essentially it covers everything besides consumables. So pads, rotors, fluid changes, etc.

The only requirement is that the scheduled maintenance is performed throughout the warranty period. Failure to do so will likely result in denied warranty claims.

I bought it just because I would like to own the truck stress free for some time and I also do not like working on my daily drivers because I am lazy lol.

My dad was telling me yesterday that he got car shield for his Tahoe. The AC condenser went out on it and he saying it’s such a hassle. Just a ridiculous amount of back-and-forth with them, then wanting to use certain kinds of parts that the dealership says can’t be used. Then they say that they can only cover a certain amount of hours and the dealership says that’s not right. Just constant back-and-forth. Basically sounds to me like the purpose is to give you the runaround and then eventually you just quit bothering because it’s not worth the time. And crazy expensive for the plan.

This is why oem backed extended warranties are worth the extra few bucks over the aftermarket warranties... You go to the dealer and they figure it out. Exclusion list is on the terms and conditions. If it's not on the list, it's free.

Aside from just the cost, they sell your information to affiliates, I am told. Emails and phone calls from people you never heard of or would want to know, if not constant calls from CarShield (ir OxCare, or ...) itself.

In short, primarily a marketing engine ... or so I was told.

Especially in situations like this with Jerry, the third parties are WAY more expensive as well. My insurance recommended this place. Good Sam. Lol, with a $100 deductible it would be $3200 for four years for my truck!

Carshield has always seemed kinda sketchy to me.

I've worked with silverrock in the past since I bought cars from carvana, it's a bit of a process if you don't want to pay the deductible but pretty straight forward and simple

I'm currently looking into this but buyer beware :
    • Deductible Options 7
$0 or $100 disappearing deductible per eligible repair visit. Deductibles can only be waived by the selling dealer. A disappearing deductible is a deductible that is waived if the repair visit is performed by the dealer who sold the VSA plan.

So if you buy a TSA from Jerry in KS and you live in Pa. your local dealer can charge you a $100 deductible because you didn't purchase the TSA from them

Check with Jerry about that. I thought there were two warranty plan options from Toyota, a $0 plan or a $100 deductible plan which had separate pricing. Jerry only sells the $0 one. Here's the footnotes on the Toyota site:

    1. Plans feature $0 or $100 deductible options. Deductible applies to each eligible repair visit. The deductible is the dollar amount you pay for authorized claims related to a single repair visit. If the disappearing deductible option is selected and the selling dealer of the VSA performs covered repairs, the $100 deductible will be waived. Otherwise the full deductible amount applies.
No lie, it could all be open to interpretation. Best to check with whoever you purchase it from though.

yeah, I don’t think this is the case. @Xbowguy , if you do check with Jerry and find out that this is indeed the case. Then please let us know, but I’ve never heard anything like this before.

Just bought a 23, on the edge about extended warranty. Always turned them down on everything and if something breaks just pay for it out of pocket. Feel as I’m way ahead with this method. Always thought if they were losing money on them they wouldn’t sell them

My printed material came from toyota after purchasing from Jerry. It shows $0 deductible.
If I had to pay $100 it would be insignificant compared to the cost to purchase local. At the typical dealer price, I wouldn't have considered it.
Was thinking about coolant pipe, timing cover and those types of repairs when I bought mine (7yr/125k $1260).
    That's cheap insurance imo.

Then there is the resale factor. It's transferable. A factory warranty used tacoma would likely bring a premium. If it didn't you can cancel.
My buddy who bought my 2021 TRD OR with 25k miles and 125k warranty was thrilled about it. Offered to cancel and reduce cost. He didn't even consider it.

The companies that sell for $xx over factory cost online are doing well. They get to make some money off a customer that otherwise wouldn't know they exist. Every vehicle specific forum I visit has a go-to dealer for warranties.
They shift around which was the reason I started this thread.
Between 2021 and 2023 wolverine (former online best deal) went up a few hundred over current Jerry's price (today's best deal).

I had the same concerns as you on above issues that may come up after the 3/36 ends . i'm looking at the 10/100K for $1360

After reading, and hearing more complaints on these post covid tacomas, buying an extended warranty contract might not be the worst idea.

Technology today versus 20 years ago is night and day. Even something simple like a windshield that I paid $75 for in 2003 is $400-600 now. Granted that’s not a warrantable item, it leads you down the path of how a warranty can be valuable.

If it was the engine issue, I did come across it later. Its these later year post covid builds thats scary. Seems toyota was just getting all the gremlins out of these trucks before covid hit building them pretty decent. My 2020 has been flawless. I think their just getting back to that stage again building trucks with fewer initial issues.

so you have until you hit 3/36 to purchase however no guarantee these internet discount extended warranty prices will be around then. if you plan on keeping it for a long time i would just get it. IMO
