I always threaten to cut my truck if it doesn't behave. So far I have done a lot of cutting regardless.

I want to like the Colorado/Canyon Silverado/Sierra but my grandfather put up with all kinds of headaches with his Chevys. His 2019 Colorado had a bad oil pressure sensor that consistently caused issues. Took it into the dealer and they said it was a known issue and to ignore it. IGNORE YOUR OIL PRESSURE? Cool, cool, cool.

I bought a CPO 2020 Corolla Hatch during peak Coof supply chain crisis at the beginning of the fed rate hike. I told myself it would be worth it for double the gas mileage of my Tacoma. Truthfully? I probably should have bought another Taco or a used 4runner. I wish I didn't let fuel cost scare me so much.

Unless you drive an insane amount, fuel mileage isn’t that big of a financial hit compared to how much everything else we need costs. Does it really matter if you save $10 on gas a week when a sub sandwich now costs $13?

It'll come down to how much of a performance increase there is.

That being said, I feel like with today's technology, the floor for almost any engine should be 25 MPG.

It will probably be more! Hybrids are good around City. Just randomly look at the entire Toyota lineup and you will see that the "equivalent" Hybrid version gets more than 50% increase in Fuel Efficiency in the CITY. They Highlander XLE for example gets 36 city (and 35 hwy), and the equivalent non-hybrid Highlander XLE gets 21 city (and 28 hwy). What I don't understand is how the Highlander non Hybrid are the same price as the Hybrid.

The Tundra Hybrid get 1 MPG average better than the non hybrid, so the Tacoma will most likely follow that.

Ours is FWD, interstate I see about 28-30mpg crusing at 70mph. Around town around 20-22.

My Taco, with a tune, still gets 16mpg highway. At best. In town about 13-14. 2/1.5 Lifted and SL 265/70 at tires.

I hope not. I hope the Tacoma follows the Camry and Highlander flow when it comes to Hybrids. The Tundra Hybrid was all about Power. The Camry and Highlander Hybrids are all about the eM Pea Gs.

Hybrid also drove smoother in my opinion. Drive a RAV4 gas vs hybrid. Not even close- regardless of fuel mileage, it's just a better powertrain and much smoother.

The Highlander Hybrid also has a dedicated electric motor running the rear wheels, a Tacoma hybrid will have a traditional IFS powering the front wheels.

Also: el Camino or not, it has its place. Not everyone needs a truck, and simply enjoy the design and added cargo space I'd they do need something that won't fit in a hatch or back seat.

I'm gonna get a ton of shit for this, but I consider the short bed Taco (5' bed) an El Camino as well :anonymous: the el Camino I believe did have a 6' bed...

Each has their usefulness, and downfalls. The Santa Cruz and Ridgeline have 0 usefulness to me. And they have 0 business being in the same category as a full frame mid size truck like a Taco, canyon, ranger, or frontier. It's apples to piles of poo.

I don’t know much about hybrid designs. Is the hybrid motor in the tundra/Tacoma similar to what’s in the Highlander and RAV4? Also will it be possible for it to become a plug in or is that a complete different system?

Grand Highlander Hybrid max gets 34 mpg combined, which most likely is going to the same engine combo the Taco is getting. Would deduct 8-10 from that for the Tacoma. BOF, most people toss on all terrains, less aero than the Highlander, heavier 4WD components, etc.

I was getting a solid 22-23 for the work commute, (mix of ranch roads, suburbia stop and go) with the stock 245s donuts. Stepped up to 265/75 ATs, now it is 18.5. Only mod is cab high topper.

DCSB is a chick truck with an open air trunk… :p

6’ bed is barely enough for me, that said I could make a DCSB work if I ripped out the rear seats and got creative with all the crap I carry. Do have a fear that Toyota is going to do away with my favorite body configuration ACLB with the 4G. It is going to be either DCLB or DCSB. At that point probably step up to full-size. Was at Toyota this morning looking at Tundras, they sure are nice…

Let’s be honest here. They are all pretty useless at hauling and towing compared to real full size trucks. Pretty much just SUVs with a bed regardless of if it has a frame or not.

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/44110...-tundras-hybrid-system-different-from-a-prius

This is the best article I've found about the differences, but it still doesn't really explain why it can't produce better fuel economy if you keep your foot off of the gas. Because it is one electric motor with a "clutch" to engage or disengage the the electric motor, it act's more like an extra turbo that gives extra torque when needed to keep the v6 from being pushed too hard. A plugin hybrid is a completely different animal as it is more like an all electric with a gas assist to charge the batteries.
