I GOT THE BALL ROLLING!

I put down a deposit for a TRD OR DCSB in Lunar Rock today. Truck is being build on 4/24, should be delivered within 4-6 weeks from then.

Besides gas and miles, what should I do first?? How are the Goodyear Wranglers?

PUMPED and EXCITED!

 

Good deal...well , first it has to make it through transit without damage(falling off the truck..etc.)

 

These are expensive trucks so I would do what will save you the most money not only right away but over time. .. . . . . . . . stop coming to this and any tacoma sight.

OE bed mat

 

Rubber bed mat is a must. That composite bed floor is slippery. Nothing stays put that isn’t tied down

 

I just use this with my bed cover. Nothing slides under it. If I need to have the cover open I throw it in the cab so it doesn’t blow away.

Slippery is useful if you constantly slide things in and out.

Personally I have absolutely zero use for OEM bed mat.

A bit more serious, the OEM bed mat is excellent and not too expensive, MESO map lights are a huge improvement too.

 

Drive it stock for the first 1,000 miles and break it in easy.

Otherwise if something goes wonky you'll not be sure if it was the mod you did or the stock truck...

Floor mats bed mat mud flaps ain't gonna make a difference, but adding 50 inch tires and lifting to high heaven and re-gearing and 'tuning' and yanking the
head unit for something else and then when sh*t goes south you'll spend twice the amount of time figuring out what went wrong.

Keep it stock and just drive the thing!! All you whippersnappers want to go out and mod the hell of these trucks spending big $$. It's just not worth it in the long run. Been there done that.

PK3B635JS0), and I also second some Meso map and dome lights but don't expect Meso to have them in stock, a lot of times you will have better luck finding his parts at sites he's partnered with
Oh and a good tonneau cover is always nice if your not getting a cap, @Truck Brigade has some good prices, when i bought mine a few years ago, no one could touch his prices. There's a couple other guys that are competitive these days but I can't remember their names.
Wranglers are garbage if you plan on wheeling. Got two flats on em the first month of owning my truck. YMMV

I found a toyota dealership that actually had really good prices on parts, I'm still shocked actually. I got a used tonneau cover, soft tri-fold, would rather have a hard one though for added security. Has the toyota emblem on the underside. They also had "tacoma" branded rubber floor mats for about the same price as walmarts rubber mats but unlike walmart I got the rear floor mat as well as the fronts.

When a drunk lady flew upside down and landed in the bed of my last tacoma it had walmart rubber floor mats and the insurance adjuster added value to it because of it.

I found a different dealership and got the toyota bed extender/divider as well, LOVE that thing! I use it as a divider only though, but even just that has been a big help when I'm lugging around a toolbox and backpack for work and also need to put some parts back there, doesn't slide all over the bed or end up near the cab.

I also installed rockford fosgate power series speakers front and back. Stock speakers didn't sound any louder after 43, now I can go all the way up and ooo it sounds better...no amp yet though.

definitely get tinting, my '17 trd offroad has slight tint from factory but I'd like to get darker. tint helps keep the interior from fading/wearing. ceramic is supposed to be the best and supposedly keeps the heat out better but I've not researched it so can't say either way...but it's REALLY pricey compared to non-ceramic.

for tires I get michelin defender H+T, apparently highest rated for wet traction, great dry traction too, highway tire though. pretty sure they rate higher on wet traction than the wranglers and most other tires. They have some bite for offroad but nothing crazy...not really an offroad tire. they also last a good while too. just don't go cheap and get uniroyals or something like that.

I also have a goose neck phone mount/charger I put in the cup holder. the built in charger works but I found the phone gps works better than the trucks so the goose neck helps with being able to keep the phone visible without having to reach and grab it and look down, etc.

DASH CAM!!!! Definitely get a dash cam. I watch a lot of dash cam vids on youtube and a common thread is someone causing an accident and lying to the cops and if it weren't for the cam the innocent person would get stuck with the bill. I think there are some that have built in batteries so they'll record if your truck is off and parked and someone wacks it. (need a rear facing camera accessible one too)

a GOOD security system like viper or avital, same company (directed electronics) and same alarm system but avital is cheaper. I bought the avital with remote start on Amazon and bought all the sensors (glass break, tilt, motion) there as well and just added them.

There's also some really good tailgate theft prevention mods on this forum that look like they're really well made and designed, well one any way...I need to get some.

aside from that it depends what you want to do with it, mine is a daily highway/interstate driver (LOOOONG drives too) and I have to go to multiple public sites for work so that's how I approach things with it.
