Speaking of RCR, Austin Dillon has been penalized 60 points and 5 playoff points. The crew chief was fined $75k and will be suspended for 2 weeks. Something to do with under wing assembly and hardware.

It's kind of a throwback while also the future of things. Big, multi-year contracts are near-gone. It's difficult for any team to explain the *value* of paying to put a brand on the car outside of relevant markets for those names. Example: It doesn't make sense for an ice-fishing company to advertise at a track south of Iowa.

I ask companies where their big markets are and what competitor's markets they want to go after. Odds are, if they have enough $ to sponsor a race car, they already have their markets locked in. Then I pull out a map and see what tracks are nearby, look up their TV ratings, and make recommendations from that point.

I'll tell ya, teams do NOT like this approach because it doesn't guarantee a full season's worth of $$, and they have to work harder to fill in the sponsorship gaps. Few of my clients are interested in a full-season sponsorship, especially for a team. I have one associate sponsor on the #3, and they're a driver sponsor. It's not so much because of who the driver is or the number on the door, rather, it's all about B2B access with other sponsors on that car. They're "part of the club" which is how it is on the corporate side. Buying access, greasing palms, and getting a bigger piece of the pie.

That would be funny because I think Dale Earnhardt strongly disliked Randy Lajoie.

Boss man and Kyle Busch weren't besties either. We see how that worked out. I think Corey would be a great fit with RCR. Let the brother Dillon's enjoy Spire.

I'm still on the side that he would have those if he was talented enough. Just because he's semi-likable with his podcast doesn't mean he has talent.

So, Austin has all the tools he needs and more but does not have the talent. In my opinion, Corey has the talent but just hasn’t had that big money backing that places like RCR can bring. More times than not Corey is told to bring home a P-20 in an effort to not wreck his car or damage parts

There is no way you’re saying Austin has more talent than Corey so I still stand by my statement

If anyone questions Corey’s ability. Watch the episode of faster with Finnegan that he was on. Dudes got talent and balls.

    My take on the playoffs...

A few things would slightly satisfy me on it:

1- stop letting winners automatically make it and go back to top 16.
2- make it a separate points bracket to determine champion only... so others still have chance to move up in points after cutoffs.
3- Make it a 2-3 race finale... Anything can happen in one race.

That would improve my fandom greatly. Since I know they ain't gonna go back to a Winston Cup style format any time soon.

No question Austin doesn't have the talent, but he has the connections and is clearly better than Ty. Again, if Corey had the talent, quality teams would have given him a ride. You have to have talent to be in the show to begin with, so the Faster with Finnegan episode is irrelevant to me. Alex Bowman has participated in several events that are for Joe Schmo's (2.4 hours of LeMullets comes to mind) and he wasn't exactly dominating those either but clearly has the talent to land a ride at HMS. John Hunter Nemecheck did a reset on his career and now he's one of the next up in line in the Toyota development program. Corey may not exactly have the best equipment, but he clearly hasn't helped himself get a better ride.

Let’s be honest. Being in top tier equipment has a lot more to do with who you know and the funds you bring to the table. By the way, that irrelevant episode. He takes an old LTD or crown Vic and lays a hot lap around CMS at over 130mph without a cage while it’s dumping oil to the point where the professional driver that went before him could not handle it before it blew a rear main seal. And if you haven’t seen the show this is not some decent equipment. This is some Craigslist shit that they thrash on for a few days. I don’t even think it had a cage. Generally I agree with you on drivers but I think Corey is probably one of the top 15-20 drivers as far as raw talent.
